Owner description: Pura Vida Gardens and Waterfalls is unique in Costa Rica. It is truly a "Visual Masterpiece". The gardens begin with the natural beauty of Costa Rica and four waterfalls in the property with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. To this millions of plants, flowers and orchids from all over the world have been added. Manicured walkways meander long a river and at the crest of the mountain which make the entire 50 acre gardens accessible to all. Have lunch in our restaurant and browse the gift shop that offers authentic Costa Rica gifts.

My wife and I recently visited this beautiful botanical garden as part of a cruise ship land tour. The gardens are immaculately maintained with a wide display of very interesting native and introduced ornamental plants. We enjoyed a very tasty and diverse buffet luncheon in the airy dining room overlooking the gardens with sweeping views of the ocean before touring the gardens and hiking to the nearby waterfall.

Although the road to Pura Vida was under construction, the frequent stops we made for trucks to move through were worth it to see these beautiful gardens. The gardens were perfectly manicured with a variety of flora and fauna – the orchids were lovely. The panoramic view of the waterfall, coastline and mountains was breath taking. Walking along one of the hiking trails and hearing a noisy toucan perched in a tree and seeing a pair of macaw parrots fly overhead was thrilling. We enjoyed a delicious lunch in the restaurant and browsed the gift shop which had authentic Costa Rica gifts. Be sure to allow plenty of time for hiking the trails, photography and simply sitting on a bench and taking in all the beauty! Pura Vida means pure life and that is the feeling you experience when visiting these gardens.

Followed signs and made the drive all the way up only to find that they wanted $20 a person to look around their property and see the gardens. None of the signs mentioned paying let alone that much. I was very disappointed that we made that drive for nothing.

They are rebuilding the road up the mountain so now it is two lanes all the way. Not quite the adventure it was the last time 5 years ago. The gardens are just as beautiful as I remembered.
