“Great Trek!”
Reviewed April 7, 2014 via mobile

It's always a little hit and miss when you book an excursion in a foreign country. Yes, you can research and read the reviews, hoping to make sure you have ticked every box prior to selecting who to spend your time with. Yet, there is always that risk that the tour is a let down, and you feel like just another tourist on a conveyor belt, passing through their world.

Luckily, Discovery is everything you hope it will be - and a little more.

At the end of the day, you can find lots of horse trekking throughout Costa Rica, and I'm sure they all have wonderful trails, through jungles, waterfalls and other spectacular views. What makes discovery stand out are the people, and more importantly the love they have for the horses and the environment.

As a first time rider, I received a brief five minute lesson from Andrea, one of the owners. She had saved the ranch and horses from what would have been a slow and painful fate, and you could see how much she loved to introduce new people to her family (the horses). At no point did I feel afraid, or out of control, and this is thanks to the excellent coaching from Andrea and Liana, and a group of horses who were just happy to escort you around the forest.

The trek itself was very pleasant, a few hours of walking through beautiful landscape and a chance to really enjoy nature. Liana was incredibly passionate about the environment and was constantly pointing out various things, from animals to vegetation with a smile on her face. During the trek, there was one stop-off, a chance to enjoy a natural spring, and apply a coat of volcanic mud! It was a very fun experience and a chance to bond with some of the other guests in a very peaceful, quiet, setting.

I'm not a big horse riding person, and turned up with the expectation of getting through the trek...in the end, I loved every minute of it, and would happily go there again.

Pros:

- fantastic owners and employees who genuinely want guests to have a good time, and take extremely good care of the animals
- a great selection of treks, taking into account all levels of ability and with horses who seem very content
- an experience that is fun for all, from beginners, all the way through to experienced riders

Cons:

- a 30 minute journey off the beaten track, on dirt tracks

“Amazing finale!”

What a great way to end our trip in Costa Rica. If you are an animal lover, this is the place for you! If I die and am reincarnated as a horse or dog, I want to stay here. Their animals are definitely loved and respected. Great email communication, even the night before the trip when we asked to change the time of the excursion. She took pictures for us on the ride, showed us toucans, wild turkeys, iguanas. It was phenomenal.

“vacation March 2014”

the love they have for their horses is what made us book our reservations, but the relaxing ride we enjoyed to the refreshing mud bath is what will keep them on our itinerary for future visits! as an animal lover, i admire the care and training methods they have put into their rescued horses. our guides Andrea & Leanna were very in tune with what their horses needed and with what we expected out of this style tour. they explained so much about the flora & fauna of their area and seem very well educated. they were also very patient and encouraging to my 9 year old son. as we cooled off in a small hidden spring, they served juicy pineapples & sweet watermelons with delicious juices.

Myself and my family went on the "Jungle Spa Adventure" tour last week. Our children are ages 7 and 5 and we absolutely loved the tour. We have never been horse back riding before. Our guide was terrific…she was extremely knowledgeable and wonderful with our boys. The horses were beautiful and so well cared for. it was a perfect morning!

we will definitely be back the next time we are in jaco and i would definitely recommend this tour to anyone.

“Relaxing, in the moment tour”
Reviewed March 30, 2014

This was our second trip with our young family to Costa Rica and our first riding experience there. From the moment of arrival we realized we had stumbled upon a unique experience. Andrea and Liana greeted us with warmth and grace and it was obvious within moments they treated their guests, their environment and most of all, their horses with respect and dignity. They were very accommodating to our young children and were quick to adapt to our varied skill levels and interests, providing plenty of information and attention to suit each of our needs. A gentle walk through the beautiful, serene surroundings, accompanied by helpful insights into the history and tips about the surrounding environment were topped off by a volcanic mud bath and welcomed fresh fruit. We rode, played, laughed, breathed fresh air, learned a bit about our surroundings. All accompanied by helpful encouragement along the way for our little ones. This was an experience, not just a horseback riding excursion that will not be long forgotten.
