My family stayed here following a Medical Tourism conference in Jaco. The location is peaceful away from the busier beach side of Jaco, set up in the hills with mountain views and delightful pool and spa. All rooms have private terraces and self-catering facilities. The staff are attentive and breakfasts delicious. There is no restaurant but they arrange for lunch or dinner to be ordered in or arrange a taxi to Jaco restaurants.
At just a short journey away from San Jose, this is a great location for a few days or weeks of recuperation and relaxation, near to the beach.

The whole experience was great. The staff were very helpful, nice pool, breakfast was good, close to Jaco and other beaches. Plenty of shops and cafes in Jaco. We used the local laundry service, and was very cheap. We had 13 items done for $7.00. It was alot cheaper than the hotels laundry service. If you don't want to leave the hotel to eat out, the staff will pick up food for you from one of the cafe's, and serve it to you on your patio or on the big deck. The iguana's stop by for visits at breakfast. I had one that visited on my patio each day, and I fed him watermelon. My only complaint was that the bed was too hard for me. They need to add some padding or have the option to have it added to your bed.

My family recently stayed at this small hotel on the outskirts of Jaco, a very nice beach with strong but not unmanageable waves about an hour or so outside of San Jose. Three things really set this hotel apart. First was the excellent service, at all hours of the night and day, that the staff provided. For example, the hotel provided menus for a number of popular Jaco restaurants, took our orders, and delivered the food right to our room. When we called for cleanup, they were there in minutes and were very thorough and polite in every respect. They also had wine chilled for us on arrival. Wine on arrival does not "make or break" a hotel, but it is an example of the nice touches that the hotel provided. I also want to add that the hotel staff was very helpful in arranging tours for us and accommodating our ever-changing itineraries, and in making sure that breakfast was ready for us on our departure date, when we needed to leave very early in the morning.

The second thing I want to mention is the location. If you are a young surfer, you probably want something right on the beach. For us, as a family that wanted to use the beach but also wanted some relief from the hubbub of Jaco, this hotel was perfect. It is less than a five minute drive to the beach and there is plenty of parking at the beach, but being a little away from Jaco landed us in a hotel with a great swimming pool, a fantastic, semi-secluded location amidst the lush Costa Rican landscape, and with a perfect "get away" feel. So the location could not have worked out better.

The room was fine for our needs and the breakfast, while not stellar, was more than adequate, and certainly good enough to ensure the five star rating remains an accurate reflection of our experience. I highly recommend El Paso de las Lapas. I should add, I slept best at this hotel than any other on our trip. That may be because the beds are extremely comfortable - it could also be because this was our last stop after an exhausting, but priceless, week.

Room Tip: Ask for the second floor. The first floor is fine, but you get better privacy with the second.

Hi! It was a pleasure to have your lovely family with us, nice to hear you enjoyed our service we really work hard to make everyone’s experience unique and be part of the value of the vacation days, we believe they have to be the best every day and is one of the reasons for having our flexible schedules since the breakfast in the morning, we are going to work to have a stellar breakfast your opinion counts and it is very important to us, it`s the best way to improve our guest satisfaction.
As you describe is a perfect “get away” but close enough (less than 5 minutes) from the beaches, restaurants, attractions, supermarkets, etc. We love to bring the restaurants to our guest room for a perfect relax, it’s the easier way to have everyone enjoying what they really want to eat. Glad you liked the extremely comfortable beds, special to rest and get ready to the next adventure day. Thanks for your recommendation and hope to have your family, friends and specially you back soon let us know in advanced and we will help you plan the trip!!!

We stayed at this place for one night on our way to UVITA. It was in late April, the hotel was almost empty which made it even more fun as we had the place to ourselves. The rooms are super clean and big, nothing to write about architecture wise but really great in terms of access to the pool and how they also have a little mini kitchenette if you are staying their for a while. Great spot!

Room Tip: get a room on first floor for easy access to the pool!

We stayed one night in route to Manuel Antonio and only wish we had stayed longer! The outdoor kitchen was great. Breakfast was included and served outside with the lizards. The pool was very nice and clean and the grounds beautifully kept. However, the staff was the best part! We were welcomed with a glass of wine and they even overlooked the fact that I had accidentally booked the wrong night. We were sad to leave the next day and would love to get the chance to return. Highly recommend!!

Room Tip: We stayed on the second floor which gave us a nice view

Thank you for your kindly comments, your opinion counts, the outdoor kitchen is great that way the room doesn’t smell food and people can enjoy the nature while cooking. Our staff really enjoyed your visit and we are glad we could help you with the accidentally booked day, so we had the chance to meet you. Today we had a tucan new born in our trees, it is amazing! Hope to have the chance to come back some day and be able to have your family and friends with us, let us know in advance and we will help you!! Have a nice day!

We stayed a couple of nights en route from the peninsula to Manuel Antonio, and it was a great decision. It's a lovely boutique hotel, with the rooms opening onto the pool, surrounded by quiet farmland. The staff are really friendly and helpful. If you aren't driving and want to go into Jaco, you get a free cab ride, or even better, you can order food in for an evening meal and eat on your terrace.
Breakfast was good, and it was lovely to sit outside and drink a coffee by the pool before having another dip..
I personally don't know why anyone would make a special trip to stay in Jaco city, as it seemed a bit plastic, but this is a great base for exploring the area or breaking a journey. Beautiful.

Great place. Quiet. Air conditioned comfortable nicely appointed rooms. Balcony refrigerator & mini-bar/sink. Optional connecting rooms. Badminton. Nice pool. Breakfast included & served in thatched open air dining area. Terrific, helpful staff. Really felt their mission was to make our stay enjoyable. Have linkage with and assist with ordering bring-in meals from several restaurants. Football (soccer) enthusiasts enjoyed outdoor TV near pool. Only negative was the poolside lounge chairs. They were of a design with comfortable fabric against your back and legs, but connected with a rigid and uncomfortable metal bar across your buttock. Fortunately breakfast chairs were nearby.

Room Tip: I can't image there is a bad room in this place.
