By far, one of the best values we have ever had. Lot's of driving (3 hours each way) but when you get to the park, and on the boat, you forget all that time. We left at 6am, and didn't get back till 7:15pm. Never felt rushed.

The best part of the trip was the tour guide Roselyn. In addition to being very knowledgeable about the country, its regions and its history, she is a skilled naturalist. She knew all the birds, and "critters" we encountered, and had no trouble identifying any of the trees and flowers we pointed out.

My daughter Hannah and & I did the 2 day 1 night tour, and I never in my wildest imagination expected to see rivers and canals like we saw, or the beautiful wildlife - swinging monkeys, toucans, birds that stood at attention and stretched their wings to dry, the Jesus Christ lizard. The bromeliads growing out of seemingly dead trees, the flowers, the humming birds - they came right up to the flowers growing outside our rooms - and the rooms - reminded me of camp days many many years ago. We had the pleasure of having a room within a group of 4 near the dining room. We had leather backed rocking chairs on our verandah for goodness sake and were able to enjoy the birds, and the beautiful peace and quiet. I loved the tiled raised walkways that meandered around the complex, and I can't not mention the beautiful pool and the bar area. No expense was spared in creating this oasis - absolutely delightful and DELICIOUS!!!

We were a group of 5, who took the day trip to Tortuguero with Tomas and his team. While Tomas drove us to La Pavona, his teammate Rosalin guided us on the boat trip. We saw a lot of wildlife, including howler monkey, spider monkey, iguana, birds on the trip. The lunch at Evergreen hotel in Tortuguero was good too. Tomas had a lot of philosophical wisdom to share during the ride. While they were interesting, some may find it a bit out of the way.

We booked a 2 night-3 day trip to Tortuguero National Park with Tomás, the owner and virtual jack-of-all-trades of Jungle Tom. We were picked up promptly at our hotel at 0610 by Tomás and then headed away into the dense, snarled traffic to start our adventure. This turned out to be a philosophical journey more than anything else. Tomás proved to be a master of human nature, psychology and sociology, all mixed in with native intelligence, conservation biology and Costa Rican pride. We learnt much about human and wild life as our van headed down through the cloud forest to the breakfast stop for a delicious traditional meal and then on to our 20-man boat on the river. Another hour or two snaking through river bends and luscious vegetation took us via the main canal to our destination, the Evergreen Hotel lodge located right on the edge of the river. After lunch, an afternoon in brightly colored Tortuguero village with its murals and oversized bird statues, and then an evening tour with the huge green turtle, laying its large white eggs in a deep sandy nest which finishes with the turtle flipping sand backwards in a huge circle all around to disguise the nest site. This is a truly inspiring experience. Although one is very restricted in movements by the guide and darkness (you must use the guide's dim red light, no cameras), something greater emerges as you witness an ancient ritual being played out just as it has been for millions of years. It ends with the enormous turtle lumbering off across the narrow stretch of sand to slip into the sea to return later on in the season to repeat the nest building and egg laying. The morning boat trip through the narrow canals is excellent and we saw many birds, monkeys, sloths and caymans among other creatures. Make sure you get an uncovered boat as the roof is a major obstruction to an unimpaired view of the canopy above. The jungle walk later on is anticlimactic and doesn't reveal much of the park's denizens. Too late in the day and too little. In all it's a grand experience but could be improved by better guiding in the park during the day time visit. Less noise and hype would be a good start - the forest does not give up its secrets willingly to the indiscreet.

We booked a 1 night standard accommodation tour via the website. We got a response from Diane really fast and she was really helpful in answering all our questions.
The minibus was spacious enough (far more comfy than some we've had on this trip) and Tomas was informative on the way. We stopped for a nice breakfast on the way too.
We didn't know which hotel we'd be staying at and we were very pleased with the Evergreen hotel. The rooms are spacious and set in nice grounds. There's lots of wildlife - a sloth was hanging just outside reception! It wasn't hot when we were there so we had no issue that there was only a ceiling fan rather than A/C.
The only thing that could have been better was the food - it was fine just not excellent.
We did a night turtle tour and it was well worth the extra $25 we saw 2 turtles laying eggs and returning to sea.
My tip is take lots of mosquito repellent on the walks, I wore shorts and got bitten lots even though I had spray on.
