We stayed for two nights at the Pachira Lodge. The setting and grounds were lovely and the Lodge is nestled in the rainforest with its own dock to the lagoon. Yes, the cottages are a little "rustic" but we didn't come to Costa Rica for luxury...we came to experience the country and its amazing variety of nature. You can only get to the lodge by boat or airplane (we came by boat and the trip down the river was a lot of fun and we saw a lot of wildlife). Most cottages are a unit of 4 per building with several rocking chairs on the wrap-around deck. We travelled in January and heat wasn't a problem for us (they do have ceiling fans). I would agree about noises from neighbors being an issue - we certainly didn't mind hearing the jungle noises and birds...but heard far too much about the personal lives of fellow travellers next door.
The Lodge gives you free water so we never worried about "tummy-troubles" (they have the big 5-gallon containers and your refill your small water bottles). We also had nightly gin and tonics and were told that the ice was from purified water as well....I'm guessing they were right because we didn't have any problem. Food was very good - all buffet style.

There is a very thin line between "efficient" and "conveyor belt" and this Lodge just stays on the right side - delivering what the tourists want in a cleverly managed, if rather slick manner. The rooms themselves were a bit of a disappointment with no storage at all so we had to live out of our bags.

The hotel grounds are teaming with wildlife - notably howler monkeys, toucans, hummingbirds and iguanas and the river trip added a further rich variety to the list - particularly birds. Our tour guide, though, took us on a walk (having recommended the hotel's jungle wellies to those who did not have walking boots!) We chose to wear our own boots, so I was not best pleased when the guide went on what he described as his own trail, which included traipsing through deep wet muddy areas which went way over the top of the boots - mine never really recovered! Wouldn't have minded if it had been worthwhile but we saw pretty much zilch on that particular trail!

We were lucky enough to "find" a sloth in a small tree close to the reception, having been told he was there by a member of staff. Strange to find him to close to the ground (I understand they only come down once a week to use the "toilet") and climbing - we suspected a "plant" but got some great photos.

The pool would benefit from having more "lounging" chairs around it for the sub-worshipers.

Beautiful setting in the forest. The design of the villas are well adapted for the climate. Nice and very clean swimming pool. Confortable chairs on our own porch. Good food, very professionnal guides. I could havé spent more days. Our guide, Manfred was perfect. Sympathic, helpful, he knows his job well.

Room Tip: All the villas are nice.

Just arrived home from a Caravan Tour of Costa Rica which included two nights at Parchira Lodge.I was impressed by the beauty of the rain forest and by the generally high quality of the facilities including the individual lodges. Without windows there are only screens to keep out the bugs and nothing to muffle the sound of the jungle. The sloth which climbed down the tree by the side of our cabin was silent, the alpha howler monkeys were not. It is a beautiful natural place and I am glad that we visited it during the dry season (It only poured at night). I regret that we missed the turtles.

Amazing lodge in the heart of a rain forest. Rooms are quite large and clean, bathrooms are basic. Loved the rocking chairs outside my room. At night you can hear tha monkeys and birds but there is no sign of insects or rodents in the rooms. It feels like you checked in to paradise.
There are two pools which are quite refreshing and a pool bar open until midnight.
Food at the restaurant is average, not a wide selection but was clean and had no stomach problems.
I would go back to this place anytime!

After reading several trip advisor reviews, I was a little concerned about this two-day excursion. It caused me to visit a grocery store and buy various bug repellents and household sprays. I didn't need to bother. There was no problem. In fact the only place in Costa Rica I encountered horrid insect bites was in Hacienda Guachipelin?
This was a beautiful and inspiring rainforest experience. The cabin-style accomodations were interesting and satisfactory. The food at the buffets isn't inspired, but it is okay. As I sometimes say, "It didn't offend".
The staff here is pleasant and effective. Our guide for the two days was Celiman, and he was quite amazing, guiding us on a river cruise, forest hike, and escorting us right to the plane at 6 a.m. When we departed.
This property s only accessible by boat so be prepared for that. If you travel with a lot of baggage, you will be a nuisance, and if you use local air service, Nature Air, you will be charged for anything over 40 pounds. You will also be weighed but not charged if you are overweight. Whew! They just post your name, picture, and weight........kidding about the last bit.
We whined about some of the inconvenience getting to this pace but agreed it was the best part of our trip to Costa Rica.

Room Tip: The lower the number, the closer you will be to the action. Higher number rooms, 70+ are far away b...
