I recently did the 3D/2N package here. Oh what a lovely place to start your Costa Rica vacation. From San Jose, it takes about 3 hours not including the meal stop: bus and boat. We were picked up at 6.30am with a group of maybe 30 people, who spoke all different languages. Along the way, the guide explains what we pass and gives an explanation about Costa Rica culture, history and current affairs, which is really interesting. At about half way through the bus ride, we stop for a buffet breakfas (included in package), which was great. At the second leg of the bus ride, the guide gives us our program explaining what activities we will be doing, the times and if there are any additonal actitivies *and costs). When we got to the port, we loaded our luggage onto the boat and off we go to the lodge. On the boat ride, the guide and driver are also looking out for fauna too - the photos start from here! The activities were fun to include, hiking, boat riding and visiting the town of Tortuguero. If you go during season, you also get the opportunity to go see the turtles laying eggs! I went on an additional ziplining tour, which was really fun. The lodge is quite big and has about 80-90 rooms! The lodge has a swimming pool and bar area. An eating area for your breakfasts lunch and dinner and also wifi available in the common areas. That was unexpected in such a remote area! The rooms were spacious and clean. There was hot water at all times and we spotted some monkeys and a sloth whilst on hotel grounds! Truly amazing! The meals were delicious, the staff were very friendly, the tours were fun and the whole experience was definitely worth it! Even on the way back, we stopped for lunch (included in the package) which was not expected. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Maybe ask for once close to the swimming pool, so you dont have to walk to far. The property is quit...

We had some wonderfull days where we saw a part of the very beautiful nature around. High-light was definately to see a sea turtel laying eggs. The hotel bar had VERY friendly staff with a good sence of humor.

La pachira is located in the jungle on an island only accesable by boat.the canal tours are very interesting ( we saw iguanas, birds caimans basiliks and all three monkeys located on the carribean side. The turtle nesting tour is very exciting. The group in the jungle walk was too big. Walking arou d thevillagewas nice.. you can buy there cocunuts for 1 dollar andfruit shakes for 3.. I even played soccor with the locals. Thepool was very nice.
They emphasized conservation and recycling..
Highly recommended

Pachira Lodge met and exceeded our expectations. It was like going to camp again, with better food. The lodging is not posh -- it really is like going to camp. No air conditioning, and some early wake up calls for wildlife excursions. The kids loved the pool. But of course, what you come for are the sea turtles, the jungle, and the animals. The turtles were amazing -- to see them laying eggs, covering the nest, and returning to the sea makes you feel like you're part of a National Geographic moment. Our guides were very knowledgeable and really took care of us -- Anselmo, Giovanni and Julio are the best. The river cruises were just as much fun, and we saw so much wildlife: crocodiles, iguanas, basilisks, jacanas, herons of all sorts, three-toed sloths, howler monkeys, spider monkeys, toucans, even long-nosed bats. The boat tours and jungle walk were fun, even in the rain, and man does it rain!

Me and my family visited the Pachira lodge resort last week for a couple of days.
We had great expectations after reviewing their web page!!!

pros: hotel public places are nice and inviting, hotel staff in general are polite and helpful!!!
cons: hotel rooms and hotel food are well below average, especially if you consider the overall
costs as shown on their home page!!!!!

Room Tip: upgraded rooms looks slightly more good then the standard ones

Since Tortuguero is rather remote, accessible only by boat or plane, we were expecting a "jungle bed and breakfast" type property. Instead, it was a well organized 3 day/2 nights tour, which we booked directly with them, and the well maintained property was more like a 3 star all inclusive resort (well except the only drinks included here are water, juice, coffee, tea and hot chocolate). We were picked up from our San Jose hotel in a luxury coach by the same guide who stayed with us for every activity and until we returned to San Jose on the same coach. En route we had breakfast (going) and lunch (returning) at their sister property. I was expecting some road side joint with something simple but it was a nice restaurant, table cloth linens and all, and the buffet meals were more than adequate. When we arrived (two boat loads) we were welcomed with nice drinks and quickly given the number of our cabin to go to, luggage unloaded within 15 mins for us to pick up. The pool was larger and nicer than expected, as was the restaurant. The included tours went off without a hitch (we were lucky with the weather and wildlife sightings), as did the reasonably priced optional tours (we did the turtle tour, saw huge green turtles laying eggs, and went fishing, didn't catch anything but nice boat ride and drinks were included). The meals were mostly fresh and good, except for one dinner with overcooked meat. Our cabin was basic, clean and comfortable enough, although we were lucky as well that we didn't have noisy neighbors, since an adjoining wall doesn't reach the ceiling. We didn't get woken up by howler monkeys, but one night the disco music, believe it or not, from across the river at the village, was thumping well into the wee hours of the morning. All in all we found that everyone tried very hard, and this was a great experience for us (family of 4, kids 11 & 14). I recommend at least two nights here, to enjoy the area and activities in a less hurried pace.

Pachira Lodge was a first leg of our trip in Costa Rica. We’ve been picked up at the hotel in San Jose and boarded a bus to Tortugero. We had a great guide for all 3 days we stayed there, his name was Oliver. He was very knowledgeable, spoke very good English and a nature and photography enthusiast.
We went thru the cloud forest, stopped for breakfast at the local restaurant and then been transported by boats to our lodge. On the way you see a lot of wild life. We were greeted with a cocktail, people at the lodge are very friendly. Our time was in low season, so we were lucky, it wasn’t much occupied, and we even used one of the pools as a private pool. They took us by boat first thing in the morning to the state park, sooo peaceful. The rain started, but it was still amazing to watch and spot rare birds and animals.
Next we went to Tortugero village. Unfortunately we were 1 month early for seeing turtles, but we walked the village, saw locals, visit the Atlantic side beach with volcanic sand, cool.
The food was simple, but good, especially the way they deliver it there by boat. Very tasty bananas.
The cabins are simple but very functional. Watch out for mosquitos and bugs. Howler monkeys did wake us up every morning as promised. We were lucky to spot a hummingbird nest and been watching it for a while. Simply amazing remote wildlife.

Room Tip: go in low season, not very occupied
