Owner description: This park contains 11 different ecological habitats and is a sanctuary for nesting sea turtles. Situated on the Northern Caribbean side of Costa Rica, in the province of Limon, it is approximately 90 miles northeast of the capital city of San José. Accessible only by air or water, Tortuguero is the most important nesting site in the entire western half of the Caribbean for the green turtle. It is known as “Tico Amazon” (Costa Rican Amazon) due to the fact that in Tortuguero there are no roads; the principle means of transportation being the dozens of fresh water canals throughout the park.

Saw a large variety of wildlife ranging from turtles to monkeys. Recommend a boat safari for best viewing

Tortuguero is a wonderful place to visit! Unfortunately I was there outside of the turtle nesting season but still very much worht it!
Natural Mystic Travel arranged also a wonderful transportation by boat from Moin (Limon) to Tortuguero; a 3 hour's boat ride along canals, rivers and mangroves that was spectacular! A beautiful experience!

Great nature and love to ride along the canals in a boat or take a rainforest walk. Greener than green and lovely animals: monkeys, toucans, sloths, caimans, iguanas, lizzards, birds, spiders, frogs. Fantastic nature!.

So much to see at this park. Go with an experienced guide as they know what to look for. We took a boat and saw so many wonderful things.

In the morning we did a guided boat tour in the park. We could spot a lot of wildlife: a sloth, spidermonkeys, howler monkeys, cappucin monkeys, iguanas, lizards, basilisc, dozens of species of butterflies, a caiman, multiple sorts of herons, montezumas, tucanette, kingfisher, anhinga, parrots (mealy parrot, ...)
In the afternoon we went for a walk on the trail in the park. We saw some agouti's, and a lot of lizards and monkeys. In the evening we did a night tour, sanderlings. We could spot a lot of grasshoopers, walking leaves, walking sticks, spiders, moths, but more important we spotted some nice frogs. Amongst them: the danta frog, which was very nice. We also spotted the silky anteater. Even for our guide it was the first time he spotted this.
Overall an amazing experience with a lot of wildlife spotting possibilities though we saw no snakes :-)...
