“Staying in Paradise”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

My stay at Banana Azul was like going to paradise. Nothing could have been better. The management and staff are caring and wonderful on how they treat there guests. The grounds are so well groomed and beautiful. I spent six days at this fine hotel and every moring I had to pinch myself to make sure I was not dead. I really thought this is what heaven was all about.

A wonderful place to stay at a very reasonable price.

Thank you Colin for having a paradise to relax and enjoy.

Der. Grand

Room Tip: The Red Frog Room has lots of extra emeneties. If you get an Ocean View Room get number one....

Live confortably pleasant day without needing a TV and air conditioning, we realize that it is not essential. Briefly near the down town, makes everything fit to enjoy an escape to what you deserve.

My friend and I stayed in the apartment from July 29 - 7th august. It was better than we expected. we arrived after the 4 hour drive from san jose and were greeted by the reception staff. we were early by a few hours but were immediately shown to our apartment and shown around the property.

The grounds are beautiful the waves can be heard anywhere you are. the restaurant has some great food and caters for vegetarians we often sat there for a few hours mesmeorized by the turtles.

The beds were very confortable and the rooms were cleaned each day and linen changed when requeste. the master bedroom was beautiful with the huge open windows. The bathroom was my favourite place so relaxing and makes you feel like no one else is around. i stayed in the 2nd bedroom and it was very comfortable i would say though that they need to replace the mosquito nets over the beds and curtains over the window but this wasnt an issue for us. i actually enjoyed being woken up with the sun but on days i was hungover i wouldve like the option. The kitchen we didnt end up using as much as we thought but it was clean and everything you needed was in it.

The food in the restaurant was all good all the time. they have your basic american type food burgers and stuff. they have amazing sandwichs they were my favourtie quick and lazy food. I loved the tico food would have been nice to have a few extra tico items on there. the themed nights were cool loved the jamaican night i love jerk chicken and rice and peas i also loved the carribbean punch.breakfast was my favourite. scrambled eggs with gallo pinto fresh pineapple and pancakes with syrup. i wanted this every morning, and almost every morning i did!
the cocktails are good and the juices you can make whatever juice you feel like (if they have the ingredients) the milkshakes oh amazing!

they have the gecko tour desk there which is great they are really helpful and friendly

we met the owners they were on the property quite regularly was very welcoming to meet them and have a chat. would love a job there guys :)

really really worth every cent...it is very reasonably price we stayed in the apartment which would be the most expensive spot and it was still very cheap for australian standard

loved every moment, will be back

Room Tip: The apartment is amazing and very well worth it even if you dont use the kitchen.

When we arrived at Banana Azul, the kind lady at the front desk gave us a tour of the hotel and I literally got teary eyed at how beautiful the place was. Maybe it was the long trek to get there and I was super exhausted, but it was completely worth the wait. The hotel is incredibly peaceful and fun. There's no way I'd ever stay anywhere else in the area. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Any room is excellent. They all have hammocks and look over the pool.

We spent three nights at Banana Azul and we wished we could have spent three more. The atmosphere was so peaceful and inviting. The gardens planted on the grounds were beautiful, the dining area had soft music playing, and we could see and hear the ocean waves from our dining table. Ahhh.

Service was friendly, fun, and prompt. We ate dinner there all three nights, and the meals were excellent with a very fair price (including dessert). Cocktails were generously poured and reasonably priced, as was the house wine. Blended drinks were made with fresh fruit and freshly squeezed juices. The included breakfast was a tasty, hearty start to the day. The entire staff was kind and helpful.

We stayed in the Red Frog room which was awesome – tastefully decorated, private, quiet, air conditioned, with our own plunge pool heated to a comfortable temperature. The room also had nice room darkening shades – I’d never slept past 6:00am in Costa Rica before! The bed was very comfy.

The location was perfect – steps from the beach, away from the busy town, but close enough to bike to Puerto Viejo. We rented bikes from Banana Azul and rode all the way to Manzanillo, stopping off at the various beaches along the way. This was our first trip to the Caribbean side of Costa Rica, and we loved it.

Banana Azul also provided little extras like coffee on the beach, a water cooler for refilling water bottles, and sunscreen and insect repellent sitting out for guests to use. Everything about Banana Azul made us feel as if the owner and staff wanted us to feel comfortable and welcome like invited guests. It’s a top notch hotel without any stuffiness. We hope to return someday!

We didn't stay at the hotel but we did add it on to one of the tours we did through Gecko Travels for lunch, beach and the pool. We got to the hotel really late. They were expecting us at 1PM and we didn't get there till gone 4PM because our tour group was big and things just took a little longer. We were really impressed with the hotel. They took care of us right away...got us our keys to lockers, gave us beach towels, and asked the bar staff to take our lunch orders. It was to late to go down to the beach so we just hung out in the bar/dining area which was too painful as the bartender - forget his name - was really hot! We had a lovely late lunch, got some drinks and just relaxed and enjoyed the view...the gardens are beautiful. The hotel manager stopped by to see us and invited us back the following day so we could enjoy the beach and pool and we took him up on his offer! The hotel is beautiful and the staff excellent that we kind of regretted we weren't staying there. Oh well....next time.
