Don't miss the chance to stop by Cafe Rico and have the best coffee available. The owners are some of the nicest people I have ever met. The Ana Rosa breakfast special is my new favorite dish. Nothing comes close - do yourself a favor and stop by Cafe Rico.

I go drink coffee every morning at sunrise served by Roger. He makes Costa Rican coffee made with an Italian machine operated by an Englishmen. (him) It is a good bird spotting location as Roger puts out bunches of bananas that hang from almond trees and all sorts of colorful birds surround you while you are here. The decor is uniquely beautiful as the shop is full of wood that looks like bamboo and there are built in bookshelves where you can buy or exchange books. Many friendly people arrive here everyday.

This little gem is tucked back on Avenida 69 between Calle 217 and 219 but you won't miss it if you look for a sweet place with books packed all around it. Come in, browse an incredible selection of books (you can buy or trade), have a lovely breakfast and relax. Café Rico's Huevos Rancheros has the best homemade sauce I have ever eaten, and their vegetable omelets are brimming. Add in delicious, local coffee or hot chocolate and friendly, helpful staff and you have a really great experience. You can also rent: bikes, boards, fins, or masks. Wifi is available for free and you can drop your laundry off while you're having breakfast! Enjoy this family-run local restaurant. If you're lucky, you'll see a sloth and hummingbirds abound the lovely gardens.

Cafe rico has everything you could possibly want. I have been living here for 2 months and am overly satisfied. They have 2 beautiful cabinas which include wifi, hot water, snorkel gear, bike rental, laundry, and even morning coffee. The food is amazing and the coffee the best I've ever had. Lisa and roger who own this place are an inspiration. They are so nice and helpful to everyone who passes through. The cafe is also a book exchange where you can relax, have some food, sip a smoothie, and watch the wildlife. There are several species of birds (even an occasional toucan!), red frogs, green poised dart frogs, and a sloth family. If you come to puerto viejo don't miss this place it's a little hidden but a treasure!

A visit to Cafe Rico is a must when spending time in Puerto Viejo. They open early in the morning and offer a great selection of breakfast items, fruits, and coffees. The cafe includes hundreds of books available for exchange or purchase, along with local art and souvenirs. The service is prompt and very friendly, and the surroundings help make this a great place to start your day.

Cafe Rico also has a wonderful garden complete with plenty of local wildlife, including many varieties of birds, frogs, and even sloths, and you might even find a room for rent if your timing is right!

There are also bikes available for rent, along with a reliable laundry service for travelers. Make sure you visit this spot during your stay on Costa Rica's lovely Caribbean coast!
