“Go further south!”
Reviewed July 15, 2014

If you have a car, drive a few kilometers further south to enjoy a cleaner, calmer beach sheltered by the coral reefs - much safer and the beautiful Caribbean blue you imagine - Punta Uva. We went on a Sunday and it was full of local families - on Monday it was empty. This beach doesn't have the murky creek and river water dumping into it like the beach further to the north.

“Beautiful beaches.....friendly people”
Reviewed July 9, 2014

The beaches here are beautiful! Sand and sun for miles. The only downside....the undertow and currents are quite strong. Not for weak swimmers. For children, and weaker swimmers, I suggest looking for pools that are protected by the reef, as these are much calmer. Great for avid surfers!

“Excellent Beach”
Reviewed July 8, 2014

The Beach at Puerto Viejo is excellent. The waves here are tiny due to the geography. The reef near shore is polished smooth and can be walked on barefoot to the swimming holes. Good snorkeling here. You can drive, or ride a bicycle up the coast to find many other smaller more secluded beach spots. Safe for night dip.

“Clean, soft sand”
Reviewed June 30, 2014

The beaches are very nice. Dark, soft sand. Great areas for walking along the beach (just watch out for crocodiles). The water is warm. The current can be strong. Be careful and have a great swim. Very beautiful!

“My beach experience”
Reviewed June 29, 2014

The Puerto Viejo Beach, just down the road from the Agapi Hotel is a clean white sand beach that is ideal for swimming or walking.I was there in May,so it was not overcrowded. The people are more then happy to accommodate a partier.I went with my Brother and we had a great time.I Think LOL.Check it out when you go.Good Luck!
