Loved Coco Loco Lodge! Absolutely a wonderful place to stay in Puerto Viejo. Would go back again and again!

Positives: Very close walk to town. Quiet, private bungalows. Very clean with maid service each day. Friendly staff. Unbeatable price.

Negatives: No a/c. Walk to lodge was a bit sketchy at night.

Myself, husband, and 2 friends ended up in Puerta Viejo for a fews days. We found the Coco Loco Lodge while just wandering threw town looking for a place to stay. The grounds were very clean and well kept. They had a duplex type of unit that had a/c for an extra $5 dollars. Our friends chose them. Our cabina had some electric fans instead of a/c.

I loved the privacy of the grounds. It felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. Breakfast is served in the reception area which is very spacious and relaxing. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Like someone said above before me, it is Puerto Viejo, if your want resort luxury you need to find a resort. It is simple, hammock on the porch, relaxing.

Close to town, just a couple of blocks but away enough to be out of the noise.

We stayed one night at Coco Loco Lodge recently and it was a great experience. It is perfectly located in town (you can walk anywhere). We were greeted by an employee who took his time telling us the best places to eat, drink, etc in town. The little cabins are fantastic and pretty private. The grounds are beautiful and we felt very safe there. Wonderful porches to relax on and read. We will definitely stay here again.

Hot rooms...had to request an extra fan. Stuff was helpful but had incident with my property getting stolen while we were sleeping. The last night we were there somebody opened the room door and took our camera, gps, cam recorder, backpack. It was scary to woke up and find your door open.

We heard about other cases with the same problem in case of unlocked or very simple opening doors that things are getting stolen from the room , thats why we have secure locks a safe box in the room and a watchman at night ,but sure thats not an excuse and I am really sorry what happend to you and about the whole situation .We definitaly will force our security and insist to our clients to lock the doors if they leave or at night, although we have that indicated in every room I hope that it never happens again and I wish you could take more positive remembers from Costa Rica

The Coco Loco facilities and staff were wonderful. It was very affordable, clean, friendly, and extremely relaxing. They offer individual thatched-roof cabins, hammock on the front porch, TV, mini-fridge, a main facility's large lobby/social/dining area, and gorgeous gardens. Its all good. You feel like you are on the edge of the jungle, however you are only 2 blocks from the main road and all the activities. If you are a bird watcher, be sure to bring binoculars. Puerto Viejo is also an extremely pleasant, clean, and friendly town with beaches. If you're on a budget the restaurants offer great food but with US prices (around $20-30/meal/2 persons), so plan on spending what you save on this hotel when dining.

Room Tip: Although the rooms do not have A/C, they have a nice big circulating fan and the beds are draped in...

I recently had the pleasure of staying a week at Coco Loco Lodge and found it to be a great place to stay and a great value! My room was simple but clean and very comfortable. Sabine, Manolo and the rest of the staff were friendly and very helpful. They were great about recommending not only tours but also local hikes, beaches and food and drink! I liked that the lodge is a bit away from the main area of Puerto Viejo as it can be loud at night.

I would warn anyone (especially people from the US) travelling to Costa Rica that lodging is by and large more simple than you may be used to...if you are expecting to have turn-down service, a mint on your pillow and all the comforts of home...perhaps you should stay home! The people of Puerto Viejo are very friendly and helpful and the lodge grounds are full of lots of birds and plants...The lodge is located in the back corner of town which makes it quiet, but also means that after a night partying in Puerto Viejo you will likely walk through the back streets on the way home. I didn't ever feel unsafe, but just be smart about it, as you would anywhere...

Again, great people, great value...I would recommend it to anyone!

The staff is probably the nicest, friendliest, most helpful we have experienced on our entire trip on the Carribean coast. We only stayed for one night but we loved the stay and how close it was to everything but yet quiet and tranquil. The only downside is the road that you have to walk down to get to town, although we were not bothered it doesn't seem like the best road to walk down at night. Stay in a group and don't strick up a conversation with the locals on that street. Otherwise it was a great place to stay, and we wish we would have stayed longer!
