My husband and I spent five days here on our honeymoon and it could not have been a more romantic and intimate setting for us to spend some quality relaxation time together! We were able to wake up to the birds, eat breakfast on our porch and enjoy the waves! The place is right on the beach and only a short walk/bike ride into town where there are a variety of restaurants and shops to keep you busy! We found it enjoyable to hit up the local supermarket as well and cook on the stove provided in our cottage kitchen for a variety of our meals! Felt so homey! Jim and Debbie (the owners) were more than helpful and willing to call us a cab into town or recommend places to go as well! Debbie even took the time to drive us into town and show us around the first day of our stay! We would definitely recommend Mother Dear for couples who are looking for a place to relax and get away from the crowds and truly take in the scenery and life in Puerto Viejo!

unfortunately, we only spent 2 days in this marvellos accomodation. Before the booking I was attracted by the pictures. But the reality is even better. Jimmy is a very friendly and excellent host. He knows about the excellent mixture between being present and give you enough space to enjoy the stay. The cabina itself is spacious, well equipped with a lot of taste and love in details. The view is stunning and we did without going to restaurant in town since we wanted to enjoy the stay there. So we only left the place for shopping food and take a swim. You feel like king and queen sitting on the veranda on your bar chairs and watching the beach front with the peaceful strand life. We had a little friend with us. A bird watching us in the bathroom whenever we get water from the tap. Mother Dear was a very good experience and I only can warmly recommend it. Thanks to Jimmy for his kindness.

We loved our stay at Mother Dear Cottages. It was the perfect distance from town, away from it all yet close enough to walk along the beach for dinner. We rented bikes and had a blast, using them as quick transportation to Puerto Viejo (great food!) and for fun excursions beyond to some of the other great beaches and other adventures. The cottages are beautiful and just right for those of us who love to vacation off the beaten path a bit but want a little more comfort and luxury now that we're a little older. Debbie and Jim are very kind people and gave us some great area information. They do a great job of being available but not intrusive, creating a very private yet welcoming feel. The hammock on the porch is perfect for reading or afternoon siestas!

Mother Dear is every bit as beautiful, welcoming, and relaxing as every other review states. We were debating whether to travel to the Caribbean coast or not and decided to after finding Mother Dear on Trip Advisor. We were so happy with our decision!! Jimmy and Debbie are the perfect hosts. We would love to go back one day and we have already recommended friends to travel to the Caribbean coast and stay at Mother Dear during their trip. Thanks again!!

Being our first time in Puerto Viejo we were not sure what to expect. Our ride from San Jose was long but was well worth the time to to get to the Carribean coast and Jim an Debbie's place was the perfect place to be. Jim settled us in when we got there with good advice on everything from where the banks were , groceries , restaurants and how to stay safe while on vacation. Mother Dear had everything we needed to be comfortable with an excellent location not far from town. One could argue they pretty much have their own private beach with maybe 2 people walking thru during a day. The water was warm and alot of fun.
Every morning we were woken up with a chorus of birds and waves crashing on the beach. We were also lucky enough to see a horse run down the beach.
If we ever come back to Costa Rica it will involve a stay at Mother Dear.

My husband and I experienced Puerto Viejo for the first time making "Mother Dear" our home-base. Just for fun, while we were in Puerto Viejo we visited other cabins and hotels to see where else we might want to stay (because we're DEFINITELY coming back to the area!). We looked, but we were already too spoiled at Mother Dear! We were so spoiled to wake up and so much as OPEN THE DOORS too see the waves break on the beach FROM OUR BED (a very comfortable king-sized). The cottge-on-stilts is the-way-to-go because of the constant light breeze and no-bugginess. Horses walked through the garden below us and ran up and down the beach in front of us. I know, it's almost laughable how idyllic... A blessing or a curse to find the BEST PLACE TO STAY the first time???? A blessing. I hope you enjoyed this review but I hope you don't book my two weeks next year ;)

P.S. I also realized the benefit of the $100 range accommodations is having a kitchen and saving on restaurant expenses. But you must try "Stashu's Con Fusion"

Room Tip: the benefit of the $100 range accommodations is having a kitchen and saving on restaurant expenses...
