My 16 year old and I recently spent a week in the little beach town of Cocles. On our first day, after a 5 hour van ride from San Jose, we walked up the street toward Puerto Viejo looking for a bite to eat. We found Tasty Waves and it ended up being our best experience...so much so that we ate (or drank) there every day, except Wed (when they are closed!). Their tacos are indescribably yummy and the breakfast burrito was out of this world! After a day on the beach, nothing beats cold beer, guaro shots and french fries---no shoes or shirt required! The vibe is very cool and the owners Bryton & Steve are great. To be clear, this is not an ultra-gourmet experience, this is a funky beach cantina with the freshest and most reasonably priced food we found. (Puerto Viejo is NOT a gourmet diner's paradise...we were charged US $50 for a plate of spaghetti and fried plaintains at one of the fancier "restaurants". Stop by Tasty Waves, you won't be disappointed. And don't miss Tasty Tuesdays for some nighttime fun!
