“If possible, take the private tour!! Set GPS to Villas Del Caribe”
Reviewed December 7, 2013

The primary reason we drove to the Puerto Viejo area was to go to the Jaguar Rescue Center (JRC) . Don't expect to see jaguars, but if possible, definitely go on a private tour to interact with animals. This was the highlight of our CR trip! As our first stop in CR and our first trip to Central America we were educated about snakes that we may encounter while in CR, their appearance, population, habitat and how to avoid a confrontation with poisonous snakes. We were also educated about the other wildlife we would and did encounter in CR. As a small group (family of four), the animals interacted with us. What a fantastic experience!! Having been to a few wildlife rescue centers, this one actually did feel like an animal 'rescue' more than a commercial profit business. I didn't feel guilty supporting their organization.

Please note that the JRC only has directional signs up only during business days, an hour prior to opening. I recall that it is right near Villas Del Caribe.

“Special Place”
Reviewed December 6, 2013

We really enjoyed our visit to the Rescue Center. Because my husband and I both speak Spanish we joined the Spanish tour (there were others in French and English) which was smaller so we had a bit more time to spend with each of the different types of animals. The staff obviously care tremendously about the animals and we learned a lot about the local ecosystems and ways they re-introduce the animals back into their natural habitats.

“AWESOME”
Reviewed December 5, 2013

We LOVED it here! For just around $20 we had the best experience with wildlife here on our 12 day trip. The staff was great, very welcoming and knowledgeable about the animals. From deer who walk around like dogs, literally kissing you and wanting to be petted to monkeys they have it all! It is sad to hear some of the stories of how these animals came to the center to be rehabilitated but thankfully a place like this exists. You can really get upclose and personal with the animals, the monkey enclosure is a must! I would suggest this for all ages!

Reviewed December 4, 2013

Staff was very friendly! What they do with those animals is great!! They take good care of the animals, some of them which have been abandoned by their mother at birth because of a defect...
(so sad)
Being able to play with the monkeys was unbelievable!! Baby monkey Julia is was too adorable!!
Loved the experience..(not so much the snakes section)... but they do a good job educating people about this animals...!
