Great foundation saving animals and restoring them so they can return to the jungle. I loved the monkeys!

“Good way to see birds”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 7, 2013

We liked the place and felt it was doing good work. However, we did not feel comfortable with the way visitors are encouraged to interface with the animals. It seems counter to the desire to return them to nature.

“Great place”

We learned so much about the local wildlife and animal endangerment. It was very educational and playing with the little rescued monkeys was the BEST!

“One of the best experiences ever”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 6, 2013

This place was simply amazing and an absolute MUST during a visit to Puerto Viejo. The animals are great, the staff are all really knowledgeable and the sanctuary is really well operated. It was a rare privilege to get so close to so many cute, rescued animals and hear their stories. Hopefully we will get the chance to return in a few months to do some voluntary work there. This place really touched my heart and I can not speak more highly of it. - James

“A must!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 6, 2013

They have a couple of tour times and several tour guides to split apart the crowds that arrive daily. We got there and were put into a group of about 15 and had a great time. You get to see and learn about some of the local poisonous snakes, how the rescue center came to be, conservation efforts, etc. There are 2 random deers walking around licking salt off of unsuspecting visitors legs, a cheeky toucan who has no health issues but refuses to fly (they've brought in specialists to encourage him), owls, baby sloths, Howler monkeys (the alpha male is named Greg), and at some point you get to spend time in the monkey cage with the baby monkeys (all really friendly). $15 per/person well spent and the money goes right back into the center. Leave a small tip for your guide as they work for free and were informative, friendly, and answered all of my silly questions.
