Absolutely loved this! It is not a zoo, it is a rescue center. The animals are being rehabilitated for release in the wild. Many are released daily and they come back while they make their transition. They depend on visitors for 100% of their funding. Loved having the baby howler monkey walk up my arm and sit on my shoulder. Amazing. Toucans, Owls, Hawks, Sloths, Monkeys, Parrots, Large wild cat that hid in doghouse so I could not see it, information on poisonous snakes and spiders, local deer passing through, and who know what you may see. Had a very friendly and informative guide. Tour was about an hour and 1/2 and wonderful.

“Up close to animals”
Reviewed February 17, 2013 via mobile

Went here on our own during our 6 day stay in puerto viejo. Just a 5- 10 min drive from downtown puerto viejo.
Call in advance to reserve a spot in one of the tours (9:30, 11:30am)!
It was quite crowded when we did the tour, but we were divided into smaller groups (about 10 persons)

Tour was fun, educative and you get to see a lot of different animals up close and their stories. The entrance fee goes to the centre, so $15 is a fine price if you ask me.

“Inspirational visit!”
Reviewed February 13, 2013

The work they are doing at the Jaguar Rescue Centre is so important and visiting there was a real pleasure. We got to see lots of animals up close. Sloth Garden and Monkey Paradise were the highlights! It was inspiring to hear how well these injured animals are thriving in such a loving and supportive environment. Thanks for an unforgettable Costa Rican experience!
