“Beautiful, well-kept facility--great tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 23, 2012

Injured and otherwise disabled animals are cared for at this center, which is staffed by volunteers from around the world. Every attempt is made to rehabilitate creatures that have been injured by man or nature, and reintroduce them to the wild. Tours are given twice daily, and at other times, most animals are freed from enclosures to run the grounds or return to their jungle habitats. Sloths, snakes, birds, can bee seen, up close and as personal as you like. Visitors can enter the monkey enclosure and interact with or even hold a young howler monkey. Wild cats--a mature margay and a baby ocelot were fed as we watched, while kept in secure and well-maintained enclosures. Worth visiting more than once!

“Most fun I had in Puerto Viejo!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 20, 2012

This center is a unique place and definitely worth the $15. Obviously in many places you might pay the same amount for a much larger zoo, but the experience is far more personal, the guides are great, and the work they do here is inspirational. The aim of the center is to release every animal they have into the wild.

The tour lasts about 90 minutes, despite the center's relatively small size, and at the end you get to go in and play with the monkeys for a little bit if you'd like. Our tour guide Megan was funny and informative, and everyone working there has a fun and casual attitude. I definitely recommend this experience.

“Excellent rescue center”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 19, 2012

Definitely visit while you are in Puerto Viejo. I expected it to be depressing, but it wasn't. The facilities are excellent and most of the animals are able to be released back in to the wild. Not only was it very interesting and informative, it was money well spent....you are supporting a great cause!
As a bonus, you even get to hold a monkey.
