“Well chosen name, La Perla!”
Reviewed March 1, 2013

We spent two weeks at La Perla and enjoyed them from beginning to end! Having the best of both worlds, lush jungle and uncrowded beaches, we got to enjoy the beauty and relax to our liking. The incredible wildlife, plants and flowers and the beautiful beaches kind of help ; )
The villas themselves offer all that one can hope for, from washing machine to BBQ, from spacious beds to complete kitchen. It was great to be able to eat "at home" and not be fully dependant on restaurants!

As for the hosts, Nadia and Antonio were very helpful and had good advise to give concerning local activities. Friendly as could be, not only were they available but also forethoughtful towards our needs. We can say without a doubt that we not only met a very nice couple at La Perla, but also made friends!
Merci beaucoup à vous deux!

Nadia and Antonio are quite nice. Antonio has built some attractive casitas. However, we were charged $280 for one night. We should at least have been offered breakfast at that rate. We were told the unit had air conditioning, it did, in one bedroom. So we had to leave the door to all the bedrooms open to try to cool off. There's not much atmosphere, especially since there's a huge guard dog that tries to attack you when you walk by his fence (on the way to the beach). Sorry, but if the rate would be lowered to 100 per night I would consider maybe staying here again.

Not just a vacation, but a wonderful experience with nature. Hosts Nadia & Antonio welcomed us like family after our 4 hour drive over the mountains from San Jose.

Within the first few minutes, Nadia pointed out 2 sloths in trees near the front yard. I was soon relaxing on the porch and enjoying the sounds & solitude of the rain forest.

We next walked 5 minutes to the beautiful and uncrowded beach to watch the surfers and swam in the warm water. Umbrellas not needed as the jungle mostly shades the beach.

Nadia speaks 4 languages and from beginning to end, she & Antonio ensured everything ran smoothly.

No bugs inside our villa & only one mosquito bite during the 4 days. Puerto Viejo is a very small beach town with numerous good beachfront outdoor restaurants. Safety was never an issue.

Great value and location for these italian styled Villas. Warm propietors will help you in all your needs. Wildlife viewing porch - monkeys, sloths, acutis, racoons, humming birds, iguanas, butterflies - . Fast wi-fi connection, flat screen tv, very comfortable bed, fully equiped kitchen. Definetly the place to choose.

This place is situated on the edge of the jungle but a 4 minute walk to one of the best beaches in the area. Don't let the jungle scare you. You are perfectly safe from the bugs and critters in you concrete bungalow. Mold doesn't grow on concrete very well. Monkeys, sloths were seen on a regular basis. If you are looking for the perfect blend of rustic but with the normal hotel emenities this is it. And what can I say about the owners except they are awesome. I would stay again and again.

I originally contacted Nadia in Dec.2012 about staying in their villas for 3 days. Nadia was quick to get back to me and very helpful. This was our 1st trip to Costa Rica and we really didn't know what to expect. Nadia answered my questions, made helpful suggestions and gave us directions to La Perla del Caribe. By the time we arrived I felt as if we were visiting a friend.
Nadia showed us our villa and it was exactly as other people had said in their reviews, well built, spotless, the perfect size for my family of 4. The kitchen was set up very nicely with everything you need including basic spices etc.. Nadia even had some refreshments in the frig to get us started. Good comfortable bedding is important to us and both bedrooms were great. We spent 2 weeks traveling all around Costa Rica and I can tell you there was only 1 other place that we stayed where we were able to sleep so well, and we stayed in some very expensive places. Another great convenience was the safe and laundry room. Not only is this villa a very easy place to relax and enjoy but it is a great value for your money.
We told Nadia that we were excited to see sloths and monkeys and we did. We would hear the monkeys in the morning and evenings, it was pretty cool ! Antonio, Nadia's husband came over in the morning to point out the mama & baby sloth in the tree right in our own private courtyard. There is a very charming porch to sit and enjoy.
Peurto Viejo is a very laid back town and beautiful beaches. Everything is easily accessible. The people are friendly and make traveling in a foreign country pretty easy, even if you don't speak Spanish. I've seen T-shirts that say, Costa Ricans- The happiest people in the world ! , I think that's very possible. I've never met so many wonderful people on any of my vacations. Having said that I will also say that Nadia and Antonio were 2 of my favorite people. They were always there to help or to simply share coffee and some pleasant conversation without ever imposing on our vacation.
We were charmed by our wonderful hosts and their beautiful villa. If you are lucky enough to go to Costa Rica, go stay with Nadia and Antonio, you'll be glad you did.
