My wife and I stayed at El Arbol in March 2012 to celebrate our 15-year anniversary. All/most of the reviews were very positive, so we felt safe about the choice. While our expectations were high, El Arbol exceeded them!

The house was nestled into the rainforest where we saw spider monkeys every morning! It was amazing. Marilyn and Jan were amazing hosts. Helped us with everything we asked. They have reliable and safe connections on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica. We highly recommend taking a guided tour with their contact, Tino. It was a tour we'll remember forever.
Also, Marilyn highly recommended getting a massage in our rooms by Kelly. Wow! We were blown away by her talent.

Just an amazing trip overall.

The houses have amazing outlooks over the forest.  Feels remote, but is only 15 mins walk from manzanillo.  The houses are luxurious and well appointed with Comfortable beds and fantastic balcony where you can view butterflies, parrots, monkeys etc.

The owners were extremely helpful and welcoming throughout our stay. They went beyond what would normally be expected, giving us advice and helping us out with restaurants etc.

This is a unique place with a truly relaxing atmosphere.  It is very private as there are only 2 bungalows. We would return in a second!

I just had an amazing vacation to El Arbol with another couple. The house was very clean, and the owners were very heplful with everything we needed. We did not have a single bug bite, and slept with porch doors wide open every night. We went to the Jaguar Rescue, Canapy Tours and Fishing/Snorkeling ..All worth the money!!! I miss seeing the monkeys everyday from the hammock. I would bring your own beach towels, and listen to Marjoleins suggestions on where to grocrey shop and go out to eat. We left the maids our food we did not use. They did a good job, and did not touch our personal piles of things. I would go back in a heartbeat!!

I just returned from a unforgetable trip to Manzanillo with my girlfriend and another couple. The house was PERFECT!! It was exactly what we expected from reading the descriptions. The house was clean and well equiped. The setting is beautiful and private. We were visited by monkeys on a daily basis and sometimes multiple times, though I understand that you cannot count on that. The owners, Marilyn and Jan, are wonderful people. They were very helpful and made sure we had everything that we needed and were able to do everything we wanted to do. Cheers!

We had a great time in Marjolein's and Jan Hein's junglehouse. In the morning we watched the monkeys swinging from tree to tree and in the afternoon we chilled at the beautiful Carribean coast. It just took us a few minutes through the jungle to get to the beach. The junglehouse has a beautiful and very creative design which fascinated us during our entire stay and which made our time in Manzanillo even more perfect. After a long day out in the heat we always looked forward to our neat, cosy and very clean hideaway amidst the jungle.
During our trip in Costa Rica we have been on several guided hikes but Marjolein and Jan Hein recommanded the best guide ever - don't miss a tour with Florentino. You will experience an explosion of smell, taste and virtual beauty. Further excellent recommandations by our hosts were two places to eat: Maxi's for lunch and the little Argentinian restaurant El Refugio for dinner - no chance without reservation.

We cannot recommend El Arbol Strongly enough. Marjolein and Jan are splendid hosts, friendly, engaging and knowledgeable. They are available 24/7 with answers to all questions and gave the best directions to and from our major destinations with detailed expanation!
The place was amazing. The rooms were spotless and enchanting. Bathrooms were top rated and you had views into the jungle from the showers. We felt very safe and greatly enjoyed the fully stocked kitchen. There were fans available and options such as air conditioning and laundry. The mosquito nets definitely saved us as well! The place has everything you could ever need. The rooms are about 2 stories high and sitting on your personal deck you have a great view of the trees and various jungle plants. We often saw butterflies and lizards in the mornings and even saw a couple of monkeys on the property. They also had a ton of information on booking tours and adventures in the area.

We enjoyed a luxurious massage(the best massage either my husband or I had ever had) under the canopy of the jungle, surrounded by the lovely aroma of exotic flowers and sounds of costa rica wildlife. You can also book yoga sessions in the privacy of your own treehouse.
Location-wise, it's very near Manzanillo and about 10 kilometers from Puerto Viejo and Cahuita is not too much further. Beautiful beaches and lots of snorkeling and you can even rent bikes and leave your car at El Arbol. Tons of options for wildlife, beach, sodas, restaurants, and nightlife all within 13 kilometers of El Arbol (We are already dreaming of the endless great seafood/dining options nearby and the wonderful chocolate croissants at Panpay!) El Arbol is Paradise in the jungle! It is really the place to be!

My husband and I just got back from El Arbol, and we LOVED it...and miss it:(

Our hosts Marjolein and Jan were wonderful! They were very warm and friendly, and always around if we needed anything at all! They even invited us over for a poker game one night with there friends, and I won! :) Our "tree house" rental was in the jungle a bit, so we really got the experience the "true jungle", critters and all. If you bugs don't bother you, you can leave your doors and windows open, other wise I would recommend keeping them closed for the most part. Even then you may find a few that sneek in.We had 3 different kinds of monkeys pass by our house almost daily, as well as howler monkeys that woke me up at 4am a few times, but I didn't mind, I loved hearing them. The balcony was also amazing to sit on in the morning or evening, no need for music, as the jungle has it's own music! We were about a 15 min drive from the main town Puerto Viejo, lots of people got around by bikes, but we were definetly glad that we rented a vehicle. It gave us alot more freedom to do as we pleased without worrying about bus scheduals or biking distance. Overall our stay was amazing and I would definetly recommend it! You are just far enough out of town to be remote, but not too far that you have no amenities. I would definetly go back!!

Thanks again for a wonderful stay Marjolein and Jan!
