“Lovely and peaceful in a gorgeous garden”
Reviewed January 26, 2013

Very spacious bungalow, nicely decorated, mosquito net over the bed, very nice bathroom with three split areas and warm water (not a given at the coast), open kitchen, TV, ceiling fan, porch with hanging hammock and bench.

In the middle of the nature, very close to the sea (200 mts). It has also a swimming pool and beautiful garden/forest surrounding the only four bungalows (so you won't have the feeling of being in an overcrowded place ever).

The couple managing the hotel, Paolo and Victoria, are lovely. Not pretentious at all, it is a very close and friendly service that makes you feel like among friends.
Breakfast is included and you can agree to have dinner in advance from a menu they will offer you.

Regarding WIFI and Sat TV we were warned in advance that it works when it works and the WIFI is slow and working only in the breakfast area, so no surprises.

Overall, after having been four times in Costa Rica, El Nido is a very nice place I would love to come back to. We spent here the last 3 days in and it offers a great value for the price. It was the best way to end the vacations.

We have stayed at El Nido in Costa Rica several times now and it continues to be wonderful. Paulo, Vittoria and Nina are the most gracious hosts you could ever want for. The cabins are spacious, comfortable and the setting is incredible. You will here and see many howler monkeys, toucans, blue morpho butterflies... The grounds Re incredibly lush and beautiful. The salt water pool is a dream.

If you are in the Caribbean side of Costa Rica, do yourself a favor and stay at El Nido.

Well, I don't even know where to begin to tell you about how absolutely perfect our stay at El Nido was. Our Casita was so much more than we had expected. I could live there forever if I were given the opportunity. Everything was absolutely perfect! To say that we loved staying there would be the ultimate understatement. We can't wait to go back! Paolo and Victoria (and baby Nina!) treated us more like friends or family than guests. We looked forward to walking up the stone path to breakfast every morning more for the smiles and conversation than the actual meal. Though that was great too! It was the perfect way to start each day.

The grounds and pool area were just as you would expect them to be in paradise. Breathtakingly beautiful! We discovered something unique and new just about every time we walked the path. Our little house had everything we needed, including a huge shower, with steaming hot water and great water pressure (something we did not encounter at another hotel) There was a little grocery store only about a 3 minute walk from El Nido, where we bought coffee, milk, wine, cheese and assorted snacks. It was great to return to our casita after spending the day at the beach and just relax in the hammock on our private porch with a glass of wine before going out for dinner. Heaven!

We can't wait to go back to Playa Chiquita and wouldn't even think of staying anywhere else but El Nido. You will not be disappointed if you stay there. Promise!

Room Tip: We stayed in the air conditioned casita.

Tired from having worked during a whole year?
Tired from having sight-seen and travelled too much?
Tired of life and not knowing where to go or what else to desire in your life?
Try this!
This is the place to stay, relax, gather your strengths, concentrate and meditate upon yourself.
The garden is magic: educated and wild at the same time, exotic enough to let you well recognise here the rare apartment plants that you cherish in your city flat. It is a meditation garden for brief meditation wanderings, designed for you and your thoughts. At last you will dare to caress unknown petals or spiny barks, observe with new curiosity the night rain drops inside a flower, experience a newly discovered familiarity with the nature around you. The sounds of not to faraway animals birds and the perfumes of of moist earth, flowers and fruits are the background of your steps on the stone paths or in the will trimmed soft grass.
The same well equilibrated balance between exotic nature and careful and respectful layout that you find in the garden you will find it in the spectacular interior and exterior architecture of the cabinas, respectful of local building traditions and materials but designed for modern comfort, with ample spaces and light, as a night shelter as well as relax space under a shady porch after a swim in the caribbean ocean or in the garden swimming pool, another of my favourite spots of EL NIDO.
The people who run EL NIDO are Paolo and Vittoria, wonderful peole: very professional and very friendly. There are there to help you and assist you in any way with the true human concern that you will never find in the best hotel concierge: you will feel as if you had always known them.
I do not know if the people who run EL NIDO are a terrific plus to the garden and to the cabinas, or if the garden is a terrific plus to the cabinas and to the presence of Paolo and Vittoria. In any way you put it, this is a perfect cocktail of people and locations for a holiday to be remembered.
My days spent at EL NIDO were well spent: it is a period of my life that I keep remembering, and when I think of these days I feel that I keep receiving the benefits of this calm and relaxed period of my life.

We stayed in these cabinas for the last nights of a couples trip and this property was the perfect way to end off a romantic trip for two. The cabinas and property are very well loved. Very clean. Everything was in good working order. Hot showers with good water pressure. Comfortable beds with fluffy pillows. Excellent kitchenette for cooking small dinners.

Aside from the lovely cabinas, the pool area is a major highlight. When we were there we found the beach was less awesome than hanging out at this beautiful poolside. (The waves at the beach can be high and aggressive with riptides, plus the sand gets too hot and locals will hassle you to rent/buy whatever they're selling). The pool is a great temperature, with comfy poolchairs, some shade and butterflies, hummingbirds and toucans all around. Also note that this property does not have direct beach access, but it's a short walk away.

Not cheap but not expensive. You get "affordable luxury" but "affordable" doesn't mean "cheap".

Paolo and Vittoria are friendly, hardworking hosts. They will happily go out of their way to make your stay pleasant and memorable. They even got up early with us on the day we left to make us breakfast which is definitely above average service!

We took the advice of the previous review and had some of their homemade pasta.... DELICIOUS and HIGHLY recommended! They use high quality ingredients - many of which are ordered from Italy. So it's as authentic as you're going to get for Italian food in the area, (once you get tired of the local rice-beans-chicken dishes). Just ask them for a menu and order it in the morning so they have a few hours to get it ready for you, as this is not a public restaurant. I also recommend their brownies!

Note that Play Chiquita is farther away from the town of Puerto Viejo than you might think. Stay here if you have a car, or don't mind the exercise, or are trying to stay away from the party-bustle of town.

Thank you Paolo, Vittoria and little Nina! My husband and I stayed here for a few days after vacating Pachamama in a hurry - we went from dirty to meticulously clean - so nice! As it was slow season we had the property to ourselves and it was so quiet, peaceful and beautiful. A hummingbird had just given birth in a nest low down and we could see the two babies poking their heads out! So neat!! Such a wonderful place to stay and Paolo and Vittoria are top notch hosts! We decided to try an italian dinner on our last night .. wish we'd tried their cooking sooner! Paolo brought his very old pasta maker all the way from Italy and he makes the most wonderful pasta we'd ever had. Mouth watering as I write this, oh so good. We just asked for something simple - pasta with tomatoes, basil and some olive oil and they made that into some sort of world class dish. Highly, highly recommend their dinner menu! They also set us up with wine and candles and it was very romantic. We will remember our time there forever, a highlight of our trip. Chatting with Vittoria and Paolo was great - they were so interested in hearing about our diving lifestyle :-) I hope they get a chance to do it someday! Thanks again!

Room Tip: Please, do yourself a favor and try their homemade pasta. You'll never want packaged pasta agai...

This is the best place to stay in this area of Costa Rica. The cabinas are little houses fully equipped around the beautiful pool. The managers, are a young couple of Italians, Paolo and Vittoria and their daughter Nina, are amazing, the service was excellent, they helped us with all our necessities, they make you feel at home.
I recommend this place to all the people who want to relax in the jungle from the deck of their home.
