We stayed at Kukula for 2 weeks, one week in the room and one at the house. It was truly enjoyable in both accomodations, comfy beds and very clean. Of course the house was the best as you had room to relax and enjoy nature and your private pool.

Every morning was the wake up call from the howler monkeys, several troups in the area that you could follow. We were lucky to have one troup right at Kukula and there was much drama as one fell off the tree. All was well and every day you could spot a sloth in some area or another within walking distance. The birds are next to contribute to your morning wake up call. It was amazing and confusing in trying to figure out the sounds of the jungle and see the all the birds! We had Tucans in the yard and numerous hummung birds posing for pictures.

The owners are truly passionate and welcoming, willing to assist in any way to make your stay amazing! Pepo, Sonia and staff thank you soo much! We truly miss your piece of paradise! The breakfast is huge and excellent! The beaches, restaurants and local market are within walking distance and all are very good.

The best part, this is not a party place, very quite and relaxing! We were in bed by 9 pretty much every night and up with the monkeys at 5:30. If you love nature and relaxation...this is the place to be!

Our family of 5 (2 adults and 3 kids) just returned after a week-long stay at La Kukula lodge. It was truly an unforgettable experience. The owners, Pepo and Sonja, are the friendliest people you will have ever met and they go out of their way to be helpful. Their staff is superb as well. The lodge itself is located in the midst of the jungle (be prepared to be woken up by howler monkeys! but you'll get used to it very quickly) but it is carefully and beautifully maintained. You will see wildlife and hear sounds that truly are magical. The beach is less than 5 minutes away and, having sampled Punta Uva and Manzanilla, we found the beach in front of the lodge to be our favorite. It has golden sand and beautiful waters and is very secluded and unspoiled. Definitely one of the best beaches we've been to.
I cannot recommend the lodge highly enough! If you go there once, you will be counting moments until you go back - I know we are, and we just got back yesterday!

Room Tip: we stayed in the Case (a 3bdrm house). the terrace is fantastic. If you have a chance, stay at the h...

We stayed for 3 days in February as a couple along with our 15 year old niece and 16 year old nephew. We were enticed by other Trip Advisor reviews and we were absolutely delighted!
Pepo, Sonia and their staff are so kind and friendly! Every morning you are awakened by the animal and bird songs then there is a different, amazing breakfast with tropical fruit and native-grown coffee and chocolate.
They are willing to show you the native flora and fauna, call you a taxi, make recommendations and give directions; anything to help make you feel at home and ensure you have the best time possible.
I cannot say enough good things about them or their place!
And suffice it to say, the kids were fully immersed in a wonderful, one-of-a-kind adventure. Who can resist howler, monkeys, toucans and sloths, right on and near the premises?
Magical and transformative, if one is looking for that :)

We stayed for two nights in early February 2014 and loved La Kukula! It is in a great part of the Puerto Viejo-Cocles-Playa Chiquita area, and the jungle setting is pure magic. We felt enveloped by the wonderful foliage and the sounds of birds and monkeys. Pepo and his wife were fantastic hosts, providing lots of friendly smiles, fun, and very helpful local information. The room was spacious, airy and beautifully designed. The breakfasts were delicious, complemented by great local coffee! We would love to go back to La Kukula!

Just a wonderful place! Clean, comfortable and unique. The hosts were very nice and don't miss the breakfast and coffee. There are a few good restaurants within walking distance, we enjoyed the Jungle Love Cafe.

Le Kukula Lodge is a beautifully situated and well kept place. The owners are super friendly and willing to guide you so you can make the most of your stay. Pepe pointed out as many wildlife as he could find to our kids, and they were very happy.
We moved from a different hotel, which while it had a beach front location, was in many ways inferior to La Kukula Lodge. The rooms are very well designed, original, and sturdy in construction. The beds are the best there is, you can count on a good night sleep - something I didn't realize was so important till we were able to experience it at La Kukula. After this hotel, it became a competition amongst all the other hotels we visited - who had the best bed? With the exception of a very luxury hotel, La Kukula won.
La Kukula is ticked in the jungle vegetation and offers a respite from the relentless heat of the beach. We had a car so the trek to the beach was not an issue, but I am sure that without kids it would be doable. And being surrounded by the towering green trees and leafy plants was certainly an experience.
Highly recommended!

Terrific tidy and well located lodge. The room was great, loved the shower and were able to see some very cool wild life. We missed seeing but sure heard the howlers. My son was able to watch 3 toucans watching him first thing in the morning and HUGE butterflies.
