My boyfriend and I took our first trip to Costa Rica and we spent the last three nights at the Korrigan Lodge. To be honest I wish we would have spent our entire trip there. Erwan and Ingrid (the owners) have really created a wonderful destination for anyone interested in getting away. The property is a short walk from the beach and a few local restaurants.

We stayed in the HEOL bungalow which was absolutely adorable. I was impressed by the cleanliness and the decor. The bed was very comfortable which was relieving because the bed at the previous place we stayed at in Puerto Viejo (Jacaranda) was not comfortable at all. We slept soundly until the howler monkeys woke us up :)

Even better - breakfast is included and is delicious!! Every morning, Erwan and Ingrid would have our place setting waiting for us. They juiced fresh fruit every morning for a very refreshing drink. They then served us a fresh fruit plate with pineapple, bananas, watermelon, mango. Erwan would then cook up some eggs (whichever way you'd like it) and these little sausages. The croissants were very yummy as ours happened to have a little bit of chocolate swirled in it. Mmm Mmmmm Mmmm. All very delicious and very filling.

Since this was our first time to Costa Rica we had so many questions. Erwan and Ingrid are incredibly nice people and answered all of our questions. They set up the zipline/canopy tour for us and also told us about the animal rescue center down the road both which I highly recommend you try when you are there. You get to play with monkeys and hold sloths!!! Very cool indeed.

After talking with Erwan about some of the local wildlife, we had mentioned we hadn't seen any toucans. Being as kind as he is, Erwan took the time and walked us around the property to where the toucans usually hang out. Though we never ended up seeing them, we did see a very large iguana up in the treetops.

Also I can't forget to mention that the family has one of the most friendliest awesome dogs around. Once day we took a walk down a small trail around the property and the dog led the way and made sure we were always behind him and OK. It was like he was showing us around his home.

As other reviewers mention, its very wise to bring flashlights. The jungle can get kind of creepy at night since its so dark. Also definitely take advantage of the free bicycles. Its an excellent way to get around the area.

We highly highly recommend staying at the Korrigan lodge. A wonderful experience at an incredible value. Thank you VERY much Erwan & Ingrid!! We hope to come back soon :)

We made a second trip to Korrigan Lodge, returning after just seven months, and Ingrid and Erwan, the owners, continue to improve what is already a wonderful property. The gardens are filling in, and little pathways are now cut to make exploring a bit easier. They make incomparable breakfasts, with fresh fruit and juices and coffee, eggs and sausage, bread delivered each morning for the toaster, and a special treat almost every day--the croissants were our favorite. And this breakfast come as part of the room rate! (as do the bikes)
The rooms are spotlessly cleaned every day, and both Ingrid and Erwan are unfailingly helpful and kind. My twelve year old daughter loves the place--she feels the love-- and the extravagantly simple joys of nature, bike rides, and sun/surf kept her happy for eight days. The breakfasts help her wake up happy every morning, too.
Tips- 1. Bring flashlights or headlamps. 2. Enjoy El Refugio's convenient location for dinners that will smash your expectations for jungle dining, and discover the small soda just north of the property for lunch. The soda doesn't look like much, but the plata del dia goes for less than $8 and includes a full plate of typical, yummy food, a fresh fruit drink, and a dessert with ice cream. Ingrid can tell you where to go. By contrast, we found restaurant at Arrecife not nice at all, in any sense of the word. 3. Explore the many beaches by bike- Punta Uva north and south, Manzanillo, and Playa Negro just north of PV were good for swimming and exploring. We find the surf of Cocles and Chiquita a bit too rough. 4. Grab a cab for dinners at Jungle Love, Soda Johannes, or The Beach Hut in PV, our favorites.
We used bug spray off and on, but Korrigan keeps wonderful little coils lit in the morning and again at dusk, and the mosquitoes/bugs are no problem. Nature rules here, from the howler monkey alarm clock, the birds in the garden, to the lightening bugs and bats at dusk, and Erwan and Ingrid have built and designed their lodge to allow nature to continue to thrive. Thanks to Cubanon for the initial heads up about Korrigan Lodge.

Korrigan Lodge is an amazing magical place. The setting is great. The rooms are so well appointed and clean. The jungle setting was so peaceful. But the best part of the trip was Ingrid and Erwan! These folks have set the bar VERY high for other hosts. They have the right balance of making you feel spoiled while not being intrusive like some B&B owners. We stayed at three local B&Bs in Costa Rica and this was by far the best. It was one of the best experiences we have had anywhere. We are ready to go back soon!

My wife and I spent a wonderful week at Korrigan Lodge in October of 2009. Our cabin was spotless when we checked in and was cleaned regularly. Breakfast in morning was exceptional. I must say that staying there I had a feeling of being home and not on somebody else's property - the hospitality, accommodations and service were so heartfelt, comfortable and unintrusive. The hosts, Ingrid and Erwan, surrounded us with care and kindness, and were very helpful in planning our trips/excersions.

I would recommend this place to anybody who wants to have an unforgettable experience around Punta Uva.

We spent 6 glorious days at Korrigan lodge in Punta Uva. This place gave us all we expected and more. We were greeted by Erwin who gladly explained where beaches, restaurants and places to go were. Every morning the owners, Erwin and Ingrid fed us delicious fruits, just squeezed fruit juice, breads, cheeses, and eggs. And there was always something special on the menu– French toast or crepes or homemade chocolate cake. The breakfast kept us going sometimes late into the afternoon. The bungalow was always so clean, it was hard to believe that we were in the heart of the jungle. If you like to step out and be greeted by monkeys, sloths, birds, it is definitely a place for you. Plus we were only steps away from the gorgeous beach. We highly recommend staying at Korrigan Lodge.

Me and my husband spent an unforgettable week in Korrigan Lodge in October. Our hosts, Ingrid and Erwan, created a very special place in the jungles across the road from beautiful Punta Uva beach. Combination of luxury and rustic ambiance, jungles and botanical garden together with warmth and unbelievable hospitality of the owners, makes staying in this lodge an incredible unique experience.

Everything in bungalows is the best quality - every little detail is thought of. Waking up in the luxury bed and gazing through canopy net that is hang over the bed outside to the jungle makes you feel like you are in a fairy tale. The shower is great - showcasing Ingrid and Erwan's engineering background. Little shampoo, conditioner, and soaps are top quality. Mini refrigerator was very useful as we kept water, fruits and leftovers there. The breakfast was both healthy and filling and made almost to your order.

But what made this experience truly special was Ingrid and Erwan's ability to make you feel pampered and surrounded with genuine care and warmth. We instantly felt that we were visiting close friends. Our hosts really wanted to share their love for Punta Uva with us - getting upset if we were not getting absolutely best experience in some places and resolving every small issue we had (like forgetting our backpack, or not having enough cash on us, or missing a bus, or getting a flat tire in the bike - the list goes on, but it's getting embarrassing so I'll stop :)).

Everything you have read in the other reviews is absolutely true. Cabins are new and spotless and wonderfully decorated. Breakfast is plentiful, local and delicious. Local beach is lovely with calm waters. Hosts are attentive and friendly. Wildlife is spectacular. I would also add that we travelled with a toddler and it was quite suitable for a family with a young child; since Ingrid and Erwan also have a young child, they were quite attuned to our son's needs and were extremely accommodating. Cannot recommend Korrigan Lodge highly enough.
