We stayed there at mid may 2013 for 4 nights, and it was great. Pierre and Marise are the couple running it, and they were extremely nice and informative. Besides, pierre is a true animal lover and adventurer and goes on hikes few times a week, and has so much knowledge about the places and animals and it does it for free! It was so much fun in chauita park with him.

Plus, their dog Basam is adorable!

Korrigian lodge was our last stay in Costa Rica, we spent there five nights. Firstly I would like to tell about people which take care about the place, Marise and Pierre. They are so nice, friendly, helpful people. First day Marise gave us lot of useful information about the place and surroundings, recommended us some restaurants and places where we could go and visit. During our stay my husband had some stomach disorder, she gave us lot of attention and helped us very much! Pierre is keen of nature, he took us for short walk to nearby beach. It was easy even for our six years old son, however we saw lots of animals as monkeys, birds, crabs, sloths, iguanas but we wouldn´t seen them without Pierre. He said that he is not a professional guide but Pierre, believe me, you are a professional!!! He has plenty of enthusiasm and knowledges about animals and nature. And finaly Bassam, big friend of our son, first day he took us to the beach and all the time he looked after us carefully. He is the cleverest dog I have seen. We are so glad that we have chosen the Korrigian lodge, we spent there really nice time and it was because of Pierre and Marise, so thank you again.

The Korrigan is an incredible place to stay. It has everything you need to enjoy a Costa Rican holiday. Marise, Pierre, and Bassam are great hosts and went to great lengths to ensure we enjoyed Puerto Viejo. The Korrigan really has it all; great location near a beautiful beach, plenty of activities (hiking, biking, exploring, relaxing), nearby restaurants and markets, free bikes, comfortable and nicely appointed bungalows, delicious breakfasts, abundant wildlife, wonderful hosts, and a great dog! Marise and Pierre provided valuable assistance in organizing activites (including a great massage), informing us about the area and wildlife (Pierre's howler monkey imitation is spot-on), and scheduling transportation to/from the lodge and around Puerto Viejo.

Great stay!

Our stay at the lodge was most enjoyable. Marise & Pierre made the stay much more enjoyable than we had ever imagined. Marise would schedule any tours that we wished to attend and would also find/suggest tours to us to help us enjoy our stay. Pierre was always filled with joy and gave us a local tour of the surroundings and the animals. His local knowledge about the animals was amazing! The breakfast at the lodge was also delicious and was a meal we both looked forward to each day! We found the lodge's dog to be as enjoyable, or maybe even more, than other reviewers have noted. He was quite friendly and a welcomed companion around the lodge and elsewhere. His extreme loyalty to us was amazing. Enough couldn't be said to compliment the lodge and Marise and Pierre. Everything about our stay was enjoyable and would hope we could return

We had such a wonderful stay at Korrigan Lodge! From all the positive reviews on tripadvisor prior to our stay, we came in with high expectations, and were pleasantly surprised when those expectations were surpassed. Marise and Pierre were terrific hosts, always available and always helpful. One of the highlights of the trip was a walk in the jungle to a secluded waterfall, with Pierre as our guide. This type of trip would have been well worth paying for as part of some type of organized tour, but Pierre did it for free, on his recommendation. You can tell he is passionate about nature, and wants to share the natural beauty of the environment with anyone who cares to indulge themselves.

That is one of the other wonderful things about this lodge, and this area - the abundance of natural wildlife. We arrived late in the afternoon after a white-water rafting trip on the Rio Pacquare (which we highly recommend!), and Pierre took us on a quick 15-minute tour of the lodgings and the surrounding blocks, showing us the best beaches and pointing out all of the natural inhabitants. We saw, just in a one block radius in those 15 minutes, the following:

spider monkeys & howler monkeys
2 toed sloth & 3 toed sloth
cayman (small crocodile)
"jesus" lizard
blue crabs
bullet ants
leaf-cutter ants
3 different types of birds
praying mantis
cicada
tree frog

He also took us to the 2 most beautiful beaches, which are literally right around the corner from the lodge. we had plans to do more active endeavors, but to be honest, the beaches were so spectacular, the waves so wonderful, and the views so breathtaking, that we spent 80% of our time at the beach. We took a trip to Puerto Viejo midway through the week for dinner, and remarked that the beaches there were not as nice as the ones we went to each day.

The breakfasts each day were also wonderful, and Marise was an excellent hostess, while Pierre cooked up 3 course breakfasts.

Finally, we thought it was funny prior to taking the trip that so many people raved about Bassam, the owner's dog. But he absolutely made our week that much more special. As soon as we arrived, he greeted us as if we were his owners, and each day, he followed us to the beach, "protecting" us from other dogs, guarding us when we were napping, and swimming with us among the waves. We felt as if he was our dog, and were sad to have to say goodbye.

We can't recommend Korrigan Lodge enough. Our best trip yet!

This stay was awesome. The facilities are well appointed--4 individual cottages with a large bed, safe, shelves, and small bar fridge (used for holding our snacks, beverages, etc). The bathroom had a nice shower, and it was all very clean. There is a central breakfast/meeting area where every morning we had the most incredible breakfast--artfully prepared fresh fruit (4 varieties per day), yogourt and granola, and then the mystery course. One day it was homemade banana and chocolate crepes, another day fresh baked croissants, a different day beautiful fresh brioche...and just when you couldn't eat any more, there was eggs, bacon, sausage, toast...a real delight! The beach was about 300 m away--beautiful, quiet, and perfect for swimming. There was an endless beach. We didn't even get to the end of it. Bassam the wonder dog was always ready to accompany us to the beach.
Pierre and Marisse were fantastic hosts. All of our needs (dinner recommendations, taxi, information about everything in the area) were met above expectation. Pierre also proved to be an expert on all sorts of wildlife, from army ants to sloths and birds. He took us (at no charge) for a four hour hike through a nearby national park, pointing out monkeys, sloths, birds, ants, etc. Alas, we saw no caiman (alligators) on this journey. He also described the history of the region, the plight of some of the indigenous people, and Costa Rica's dedication to environmental preservation.
We were unable to go on a second hike days later, in which the participants went to a waterfall.
There was an informal happy hour attended daily by most of the people at the Lodge (by chance, all Canadians while we were there). It was so much fun!
I understand Pierre and Marisse will be leaving shortly to another venture. The physical Lodge was great, but it is these two people that made this experience outstanding.

We spent three wonderful days at Korrigan Lodge, we only wish it could have been longer. It was the ending of our holiday after a 10 day bus tour of Costa Rica. Marisa and Pierre were terrific hosts, we felt so welcomed. They were so informative of the area, restaurants, wildlife and history. The breakfasts were just delicious and the presentation suberb, by far the best we had on our whole trip! The little cabinas were so unique, clean and comfortable. The comfy hammock on the deck was such a relaxing spot to listen to all the jungle sounds of birds and monkeys. We enjoyed the beach everyday which is only a short walk away, sometimes Bassam the resident Black lab would come to the beach with us, much to our enjoyment. The little beach bar and grill offered delicious shrimp and the best Carribean rice we had ever eaten too.We loved our trip to Costa Rica and Korrigan Lodge was just the icing on the cake. We want to go back!
