The Maribu Caribe Hotel is situated high on a hill overlooking the Caribbean sea, a few kilometers north of Puerto Limon. Once past the rather handsome reception area, you get a full view of the well manicured grounds which are extensive and quite impressive, as are the swimming pool, the pool-side bar, the restaurant and the the thatched-roofed bedroom units set in a circular pattern. However, the rooms themselves are quite a let-down. The decor is downright "basic", the curtains are simply atrocious and the bathrooms are below par although spotlessly clean. The beds are just OK, but at least in my room, the reading lights didn't work and the AC unit was quite noisy. The restaurant is quite nice and the food more than adequate. The free breakfast, also served in the restaurant, is buffet style but the selection is below par for this type of hotel.
