Puerto Limon was a port of call during our Panama Canal cruise and we did not want to be stuck as part of a huge group on a large bus for the day. We contacted 3 tour operators (that we found on TripAdvisor) and William's replies were the quickest and he answered all of our questions to form a custom tour for the 4 of us.

We were picked up right on time, but were a little surprised to be "handed off" to Manual as our Guide for the day... and were even more surprised when the 4 of us had to squeeze into a taxi as our transportation for the day. Good thing none of us are big people... but even with that, the 3 of us in the back seat were not very comfortable, with not enough room and springs sticking into our butts.

However, Manual did a good job of showing us things such as plants and wildlife along the way. Our boat guide during our canal ride was excellent and we saw lots of wildlife.

Next we went to Cahuita, and were again a little surprised that Manual did not come in with us. However, Cahuita is very beautiful and we again saw lots of wildlife and insects.

Although it was FULL day tour, Manual seemed surprised that we wanted to stop for lunch. He did find a wonderful restaurant for us (lunch was fantastic), but this made us late to our appointment at the Sloth Sanctuary, which stressed us out.

The Sloth Sanctuary was amazing, the high-light of our day!!!

All in all, we are glad we chose Tortuguero Wildlife Tours as we did get to do everything we wanted to (and the cruise ship did not offer that). However, MAKE SURE THE VEHICLE YOU WILL GET WILL FIT ALL OF YOU COMFORTABLY!!!

I contacted William by email to schedule a tour for eight seniors getting off the holland American cruise ship this week. One of our friends has a wheel chair and the rest of us are pretty mobile. William arranged a land and canal tour that included a tour of a banana plantation, the Tortuguero
Canal, a trip to the beach and overlook of the city with great narrations from our driver Tony. Tony met us at the cruise ship terminal and recognized right away that we needed a bib big vehicle. He had a 9 passenger van that would be good for most visitors but between the physical size of our group and the wheel chair he put us in a 16 passenger van at no extra cost. We loved everything about the trip stopping to try organic fruit identifying trees and plants as we passed by. It could not have been better. Do not go with the cruise ship go with William Guerrero Araya And Luis Martin Smith they are well aware of the cruise ship departure time. You will have a private tour at a great price with reliable equipment and back up equipment.

We emailed the owner, William Guerrero, for possiblities to take us from Moín to Tortuguero. He replied fast and helped us out, so we didn't need to book a rearranged tour.
He really spots a lot of wildlife on the trip and stops long enough to take a good look, where others drive by. He is happy when his customers are, though if you don't speak (a bit) spanish it is hard to understand him.

We just stayed two nights in Tortuguero and made tours with Barbara. She is a wonderful guide and knows all about plants and animals! We learned a lot and saw a lot! It was worth to get up at 5 am in order to go on a canoe trip! In the afternoon we went for a forest hike and saw plenty of birds, monkies, an ant bear and even a viper!
We highly recommend to choose Barbara if you want to get more than just the average tour.

Luis answered my email quickly a week before our cruise. We went to the private rain forest. there was an entrance fee (credit cards accepted)The price of $250 very reasonable for a private van to take us around the island for up to six hours plus a tip . He had cooler with bottled water and grapefruit sodas which was amazing. Our guide Anthony met us outside the main terminal holding a sign. Very pleasant young man who stopped and showed us local fruit etc. and things along the way. The only downfall of the tour was the air conditioned van was not a newer one and leg room was nonexistent which was not very comfortable for the 5' 9 & 6' 2 men on the trip. So make sure you have a more new van .then we did. Anthony took us all over to local super markets to buy Britt coffee and it was cheaper. We ran him ragged as we bought a lot. We had a wonderful experience.
