“Beautiful!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 6, 2012

This is such a wonderful taste of Costa Rica! We saw white faced monkeys, mangroves, huge anthills, and leave cutter ants. One guy with us had a good eye and spotted a silky anteater in a tree. That was really awesome! thats not something you see everyday either! When we were leaving there were Howler monkeys right above us howling like crazy! It was awesome!

“A Very Enjoyable 3 Hours”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 6, 2012

The park is WONDERFUL. Bring some water and some snacks and prepare yourself for a peaceful, scenic hike. It's very clean, flat, and easy to follow. There are loads of insects, animals, and flowers to be observed.

Park entrance is based on donation. Our hotel owner suggested we give 500 colones ($1) per person, but that didn't seem much to us, so we gave a little more. After all, the money goes towards preserving the park and the locals there take great care of it.

Go in the early morning to see more of the amazing yellow pit viper snakes and sloths. Later in the day they become harder to spot.

“Beware - Knifepoint robbery”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 5, 2012

Writing right after coming back from the park. So the park was beautiful and we saw lots of animals during an easy stroll - until my wife and I were robbed at knifepoint (and machettes) by a masked trio jumping out of the woods, who dragged us back into the woods, gagged us, and tied us to a tree 200 meters from the trail - then fleed with our possessions. All the while threatening to kill us and saying we were lucky to speak Spanish because if we were "English speaking gringos" we would be dead as they hate gringos. No kidding. Luckily my wife was able to disentangle herself and set us free after a while. We ran 2 km to the nearest ranger station where they called the police and went after the bad guys - to no avail of course. By their reaction it doesn't seem to be a rare occurrence so it strikes me as odd to see no other comments about this here in TripAdvisor. The park was NOT empty and there were lots of other tourists around - we were unlucky to be at the wrong place at the wrong time when there were no others around. So if you still want to go there, go in groups, or always keep other tourists in sight.

“Nice stroll with loads of animals”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2012

Enter via Cahuita to avoid the entrance fee (but leave a donation!) The trail passes just a few meters beside the white sandy beach. it is well maintained and there are loads of animals around. It's a nice hike and when you r prepared you can enjoy pick nick or a swim as well.
