“Picturesque, relaxing, and friendly”
Reviewed December 31, 2013

On my month tour all around Costa Rica this place way my favorite stop.

Thank you so much Patty and Walter for having us in your own private paradise.
My party of four came here to relax and enjoy the beach in Cahuita in August. The tide pool really gives you a chance to enjoy the water without any worry of being sucked away by strong waves (like all the other beaches in Cahuita). Patty has a beautiful garden which peacocks room around and a couple of friendly dogs too. The hammocks under the trees near the ocean leave you to rock yourself to sleep listening to the waves.
The rooms were clean, and had bug nets (not that we needed them), and we had our own private bathroom with hot water.
Patty and Walter were extremely helpful and very knowledgeable about the area.
Thank you so much, we really appreciated everything.

Room Tip: There are only five rooms, and the one on the end which we stayed in had an extra window which was n...

Pros:
* Hostess is the most amazing person you'll ever have the pleasure to rent a room from. She's kind; helpful; and chock-full of local information, recommendations, and (if you've got the time and interest) stories of an inspiring life
* Natural swimming tidepool is unique and a sight to behold
* Abundant flora and fauna makes any trip around the grounds feel like a jungle adventure
* Ocean-view hammocks are an ideal place to retreat with a lover and/or good book
* A (nearly) endless supply of beers and wine for sale and the kitchen makes it so that you have the option to visit a local grocer once and stay secluded for a week at a time if that's your kind of thing
* Kept VERY clean and tidy

Cons:
* The three star rating for the rooms is because there's nothing really special about the rooms themselves AND the fact that there's no door separating the bathroom from the rest of the room. That being said, you will likely be spending very little time in the room itself due to the natural beauty all around Also, if you're staying by yourself, or are very comfortable with those you're staying with, the lack of a bathroom door should be of little issue.
* The four star rating for location is to point out the fact that it is a good twenty minute march from Cahuita. I found this to be endearing, but to each his/her own.

Nice little paradise, hamak on the beach (on the rocks, no beach there, no swim). Beaches are about 15minutes walk, black sand though (probably good for surf when swell), a car is a real plus, n it might be more secure too.
My only disappointment is the WiFi that exist but does not work anywhere and the guy doesn't really care (he seems really stone...), laundry was broken, and the water sink smells pretty bad.. Nobody tried to drink it. Beside that its a very nice little paradise for the price. I would still double check for future because we saw sign for 15$/night, or 30 with AC... As well the next town is really more pretty ! (Puerto viejo)
For 'good bakery' check border town 'Paris', and very good pizza and price at 'cuihita pizzeria'.

Room Tip: There is some with two single, some with double..

Comfortable hospitality on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica.

This property has cabins set in a lush garden just up from the beach.

The shared kitchen and eating patio is tiled, large, and open air. Most restaurants would love to be so well appointed and laid out. Extremely well designed and built.

The location is north of town on a dirt road, so it is separated from any kind of noise other than waves pounding the shore.

It was fun to float in and out with the tide surge amongst the remains of the old reef.

We stayed here for three nights and felt well rested when we left. We thoroughly enjoyed it, thank you for an awesome stay and the mangoes! I can't add anything more than what is already written in the other reviews on tripadvisor.

Biked past this place when I was spending time in Cahuita a year ago. It's so tucked away, I assumed it was private property. Lol.

Well after spending 6 days in Cahuita on a return visit this year (and having to consider some less expensive options for lodging), my husband and I decided to look into some places, and discovered that this spot was actually a lodge.

We were pleasantly surprised when we opened the gate and saw what was behind it. A gorgeously landscaped, ocean front property, with a beautiful natural pool (hence the hotel name) that led out to the ocean.

The owners, Walter and Patty, live on the grounds in a completely open house. A real interesting and surprisingly functional concept. There are a large kitchen and open diningroom that are used as the common areas of the lodge, where you can store and prepare your own food (an affordable and convenient option if you plan on spending several days), purchase drinks from their fridge or just hang out. There's an additional common area that overlooks the ocean, with several hammocks for you to kick back and relax in.

You can't beat the prices for the value. It truly was a perfect find at the perfect time!

Walter and Patty were very easy going, friendly, and helpful when we needed them. They even drove my husband and I all the way to Moin (which is about an hour away) when there was a mix up on their end, so we wouldn't miss our boat to Tortuguero! Very grateful for that. :-)

If you want value for your buck, this is the place!

(Side Note: This is not a full service hotel but with rates as low as $35 a night, can you really complain? There is no AC and the windows have no screens on them; sort of a minimal approach to the "open" concept. There are shutters, a fan and a mosquito net however, and they should do you just fine.

They do sweep the rooms and provide clean towels if needed. They also offer laundry services at a small cost.

Check ahead to see if there are bathroom doors in the double occupancy rooms because there weren't any in the rooms with one bed. Not the worst if you're a couple but, that could obviously be a bit awkward if you're traveling with friends or some family).

Piscina Natural is an incredibly lush ocean-front garden space with little bungalows tucked inside. The space is magnificent -- teeming with wildlife, backing right up to the ocean, and complete with a natural tide pool perfect for wading and relaxing. There is a wonderful outdoor area with hammocks and a gazebo for relaxing by the crashing waves. The rooms are clean, beds with mosquito nets are very comfortable, and the prices are the best around! There is a kitchen to use to prepare your own meals, with free coffee in the morning and free wifi. The location is a bit of a walk from town, but it is bearable... it is worth it for the gardens! It's an easy, 5 minute walk to Playa Negra.
My only complaint is that the owners were hard to track down -- even when we needed to pay for our stay! They are extremely welcoming people, but it is not the same as having someone working in reception who can assist with calling a taxi or suggesting a good restaurant. Also, screens on the windows for the rooms would be nice.... we found a few geckos crawling through our stuff! Harmless, and not a big deal, but just a small comment.
Overall.... highly worth it ... a truly unique and beautiful spot to fully embrace the Costa Rican lifestyle!
