“"Without doubt the best place we stayed"”
Reviewed August 31, 2011

We cant speak more highly on this hotel, not only is it set in the most beautifully landscaped gardens with a great pool, the accommodation (Green Cottage) was second to none (clean, spacious, uniquely designed and safe with own personal terrace under the trees). The clincher however were the hosts, Marise and Pierre who totally made our stay. They went way beyond the call of duty in making our stay truly memorable. Pierre took us for a day of activity including visiting the Jaguar Rescue Centre (highly recommend) and also trekking in the jungle to find a cave and then a stunning waterfall, which was all off the beaten track wiht no other tourists in sight - Pierre was a passionate and safe guide and his knowledge of everything nature meant we learnt more in one day than we have in years if felt!
This hotel is unbelieveable value for money and in a great location just outside Cahuita so very peaceful. A real gem it was sad to leave and especially to say goodbye to Pierre and Marise who were the most wonderful hosts - happy days.....G & S Robertson

If you are going to Cahuita, this is a great place to stay. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone traveling to the Caribbean side of the country. A little off topic, but there are some wonderful restaurants over here that are different from other areas (different influences). Also, be cautious when traveling to this side as the weather can be different than the rest of Costa Rica - we had a lot of rain, like ALOT of rain! Still a great adventure and well worth the time.

I gave this 4 stars as this was the only place we stayed on this trip that didn't have drinking water. You are kind've forced to purchase bottled water which is a bit inconvenient when almost every other hotel provides this service. Despite this small inconvenience, this is a FANTASTIC place to stay. The bungalows are VERY clean and the landscape looks planned to perfection. Someone spent a lot of time and money to make this place really special. The managers went out of their way to accommodate all of our needs. If you book this guesthouse with enough time ahead of you, you might even be able to rent the small house! I would stay here again as the beach across the street (literally) is not nearly as busy as the white beach by the national park. Also there are boogie boards that the customers can use.

Playa Negra Guesthouse is a gem. Located directly in front of Playa Negra and an easy walk to Cajuita, this spot was safe, beautiful and a relaxing stay. We were unfortunately there for only one night but could have comfortably stayed for a week. The owners were out of town but the inn sitters were attentive and friendly. We stayed in the Green Villa, and for $75 a night, we felt it was a steal. The grounds and pool were well kept and the beach made for fun body boarding and swimming. We heard the howler monkies in the morning and enjoyed drinks by the pool. We would highly recommend this place!

This was a wonderful place to read, swim, sun, walk. The beach was just steps away, across the road. The gardens were spectacular. The room and private veranda was very nice--quiet, clean, and comfortable. Playa Negra Guesthouse exceeded our expectations. If you're looking for a place to get away from it all, this is the place.
Some negatives: (We did not have a car.) Although the town is within waking distance, about 1k, it's not a great town to explore. Finding good food wasn't easy. Cha Cha Cha was very good. We also found a very good bakery on the highway.

Since we was traveling on the Off-Season we came with list of B&B's and not reservation.
After checking Playa Negra Guesthouse we was charmed.
We was invited to their newly built family suite (First visitors there) and we took it.
First i should mention that the Guesthouse is 2 meter from amazing beach, we were going there so much because of the proximity.
The room was so nice, with fully equipped kitchen, big clean shower, nice bed, great balcony with view the the pool.
The place also have lovely pool, we were checking it nightly, and we even got playing with the dogs with catch, sooo cute :)

The Staff was very nice, we even was so jealous of them to leave home and go settle on the beach. We had good conversation with them each time we needed.

I would definitely recommend anyone in the area to check this place.

If you are visiting Cahuita, Costa Rica (highly recommended) the best accommodations is the "Playa Negra Guesthouse". Upon arriving after dark we were greeted by Greg and Dolly (the dog). Greg immediately assisted us with our luggage and escorted us to the "Yellow Cottage". Since it had been a very long day he recommended a restaurant (within walking distance) in which we could unwind (excellent choice). Greg and Michel (owners) assisted us with not only getting a tire repaired but a fishing expedition and places to visit. The highlight of the trip was just relaxing by the pool, sitting on the porch in the mornings enjoying the beautiful surroundings, Greg stopping by to make sure everything was ok and occassionally seeing a unique creature. Greg and Michel offer a unique service which is a cooler by the pool stocked with juices, soft drinks, water, beer and wine (honor system). It would be impossible to totally describe our experience at Playa Negra Guesthouse because everything was wonderful (thanks to the attentive owners). If you're in Cahuita (please check-in or checkout this property). Many Thanks to Greg and Michel - Janet & Richard Bern, Jake and Gloria Woodall (Jake the one who caught the Big ONE (tarpon)

Room Tip: Playa Negra offers three cottages and individual rooms.
