If you are visiting Cahuita, Costa Rica (highly recommended) the best accommodations is the "Playa Negra Guesthouse". Upon arriving after dark we were greeted by Greg and Dolly (the dog). Greg immediately assisted us with our luggage and escorted us to the "Yellow Cottage". Since it had been a very long day he recommended a restaurant (within walking distance) in which we could unwind (excellent choice). Greg and Michel (owners) assisted us with not only getting a tire repaired but a fishing expedition and places to visit. The highlight of the trip was just relaxing by the pool, sitting on the porch in the mornings enjoying the beautiful surroundings, Greg stopping by to make sure everything was ok and occassionally seeing a unique creature. Greg and Michel offer a unique service which is a cooler by the pool stocked with juices, soft drinks, water, beer and wine (honor system). It would be impossible to totally describe our experience at Playa Negra Guesthouse because everything was wonderful (thanks to the attentive owners). If you're in Cahuita (please check-in or checkout this property). Many Thanks to Greg and Michel - Janet & Richard Bern, Jake and Gloria Woodall (Jake the one who caught the Big ONE (tarpon)

Room Tip: Playa Negra offers three cottages and individual rooms.

I was looking for a place to completely relax. The reviews encouraged me to come here. I was not disappointed.

The owners have created a beautiful haven in a wonderful little town. You are just steps from Playa Negra and a short 15 minute walk from Playa Blanca. It is near two good restaurants (Reggae Restaurant and Chao's Paradise).

The property is beautifully landscaped and lovingly maintained. It is hard to keep any hotel immaculate in Costa Rica but the staff here does. You actually feel like you are here alone most of the time. The way the rooms and bungalows are set, you look out or sit on your little porch and see mostly greenery. I only heard other people when a family with obnoxious/entitled children decided the pool was theirs alone. Fortunately, I only endured them a short time.

What sets the Guesthouse apart is its attention to detail. Loved the coffeemaker, the refrigerator, the drinks available for purchase at the pool, but most importantly the dishes, the dish towels and dish soap, washcloths and the beach towels in addition to bath towels. There is WIFI if you bring a computer.

There is no A/C but it is not needed. Cahuita is so pleasant at night and the ceiling fan more than does the job.

The owners will give great advice on where to buy food, area sites to see. They will provide you with maps. They are kind people but also want you to enjoy the peace and tranquility of your stay. I highly recommend getting up early for at least one sunrise.

Suggestion for the owners: Give us the option of using towels multiple days. I appreciated getting fresh towels daily but thinking green, give us an option to re-use. I know water can be scarce in parts of Limon.

***Future guests: If you plan to come with children, please remember that this is a quiet retreat and to have your children be respectful of other guests.

Room Tip: There are single rooms and bungalows.

We were amazed and delighted to have stayed at Playa Negra Guesthouse. It is a jewel in the jungle of Cahuita. Greg and Michel were phenomenol hosts. They made certain we were comfortable and provided us with all we needed for a most memorable family vacation. Sally Malaney, Mark iverson, JT Tilelli

The Playa Negra Guest House was the perfect start to our vacation in Costa Rica. The staff was very accomodating and provided excellent advice for activities and eateries. The grounds are stunning, it is tempting to just stay by the pool and take it all in.

I was travelling in Costa Rica in may 2011 and I stayed few days at Playa Negra Guesthouse. I rented the double room for 3 nights and the yellow cottage for the weekend. The cottage is just a little paradise, hidden among birds of paradise and trees. I really enjoyed the nights on the confortable patio and the possibility of cooking. The hosts were very welcoming and the staff really nice. Cahuita is a charming village with an incredible white sand beach in the national park. You can walk just few minuts from the guesthouse and have access to all the amenities you need.
