Recommended length of visit: 2-3 hours
Owner description: Two types of tours to see sloths and learn about their diminishing rainforest habitat. Sorry, no direct contact with sloths, for their well-being and yours. "Buttercup Tour" requires no advance reservation; just arrive about 20 minutes before the top of the hour (8AM–2PM) to register. Duration about 2 hours. "Insider's Tour" is given twice daily and requires advance booking. This tour includes everything in the Buttercup Tour plus "behind-the-scenes" visits to the NICU, Slothpital, climbing area and more. Admission/donations collected directly support the sloths – their rescue, rehabilitation, wellness, research, housing and enrichments. Thank you for supporting the sloths with your tour!

From the moment we started to plan our Costa Rica trip we knew that we want to see sloths. After a little bit of research we found this Sloth Sanctuary on the Caribbean coast. What a wonderful experience! The 2 hour tour is wort every penny ($25/person) and not only you have the opportunity to see the sloths from up close but you also learn so much about them. The wonderful people running this sanctuary for injured and damaged sloths are doing an excellent job. My wife Beth and I loved this trip very much and it was really the highlight of our firs Costa Rica trip. Hey Buttercup, we are coming back!

The dedicated family that operates this sanctuary works to rescue and release (when possible) sloths. They have an immense property; be sure to take advantage of the canoe ride through the river that runs through the property. (Not all of the boatmen can communicate well in English). Be on the alert for hanging bats, iguanas, caiman and wild sloths eating in the treetops.
The proprietors now have cute cabins on their property for rent.I'm not sure if all the cabins have a.c.I imagine the sounds of the jungle at night, are incredible!

We not only visited but we stayed here two nights as well. Most comfortable bed we had on the whole trip outside of the $350 per night resort in La Fortuna. Price for the room was decent considering that you got breakfast and the buttercup tour included. Because we had booked for the insider's tour instead, we were also given lunch.

We took the insiders tour which was the highlight of the trip for my animal lover adult daughter. The owners of the Sanctuary have a true passion for their mission to save and rehabilitate these Sloths and this is not just some tourist trap but rather a real effort to improve the situation for an animal whose lives are being endangered by the encroachment of their habitat.

They are also going to housing professional academic researchers beginning this summer to further the cause of the Sloths. This place is truly a genuine and passionate conservation effort that also gives any animal lover a close up view of a fascinating animal. I highly recommend the insiders tour. Our guide, Jeff, is the grandson of the owner Judy and he did a wonderful job in giving us our tour. We really enjoyed it.

This was the highlight of our trip. What an experience! I would recommend this for everyone to do. The baby sloth were such a delight to see. We had the opportunity to pet them and Butter Cup is such a ham, loves getting here picture taken!

A visit to this sanctuary was absolutely the highlight of a wonderful trip to Costa Rica. So many sanctuaries are just a series of cages. This one is different - they really make an extra effort. Their depth of enthusiasm for education and for nurturing these crazy creatures was absolutely infectious! We did the insider tour and it was completely worth it. Those baby sloths are painfully adorable. Jeff was our guide and we really liked his attitude and knowledge about the sloths. I am so happy that this place exists!!
