Visited with our two teenage sons and there was no shortage of adventures to be had! Immediately we took to the trails on their incredible board walk which is the perfect place for comfortably viewing the abundant exotic wildlife during both day and in the night! Then an incredible kayak trip down the river through pineapple plantations and rainforest. We horseback rode through the miles of trails on the property and spent endless hours taking in the spectacular views at every turn. We were enthralled with the never ending flocks of scarlet and great green macaws that fly overhead constantly. The facilities are gorgeous and comfortable with an on-site restaurant, gift shop, bath house, etc. The local staff at Cinco Ceibas are friendly and helpful. Having traveled all over Costa Rica for no less than a dozen trips, I can tell you this is by far one of our favorite places to enjoy the wild natural beauty of the country.

We were staying in San Jose and had only 1 day to pick an on-shore adventure - I'm glad we picked this one. We arranged for a tour guide to take us the 3-4 hour drive out to Cinco Ceibas. We stopped along the way for breakfast and a few photo ops. Arriving in Cinco Ceibas we were treated with focus and attention. A small snack of tasty sweet cookies and coffee or tea. Then off for a 2 hour tour of the rain forest with two excellent guides. Next a simple, but well prepared lunch. And then a choice - I wish we could have picked them all - either a horse back ride, kayaking or oxen tour. We picked the kayaking and we were not disappointed! Easy kayaking class I with a bit of class II now and again to keep things interesting - even for those much less experienced on our trip. Lots of wildlife to see and time to just drift and enjoy. A bit of rain to keep us cool and of course, you can always dip in the ocean. Then, showers (not hot, unfortunately) another snack and then off for our return trip. Tired, but satisfied.

If you want a real taste of the rain forest (in comfort), visit Cinco Ceibas Rainforest Reserve and Adventure Park. The staff went out of their way to welcome us to their rain forest retreat. The lounge was modern and comfortable, featuring open air seating area, a gift shop, and clean restrooms. Our first activity was a walk on the 1.2 km boardwalk that winds through a primary growth forest. It was a great way to get close to the forest without coming into contact with it. Highlights included majestic, ancient (300 - 500 yr old) Ceiba trees and the unexpected appearance of the uncommon Great Green Macaw which settled onto the tree tops. This was followed by a delightful gourmet lunch cooked by Natasha, who runs the place along with Arthur. Next, we used the convenient locker rooms to change for our kayaking trip. These were supplied with lockers and towels. We will remember our kayaking experience on the Cuarto River with fondness. We saw several monkeys as well as beautiful birds (the Sunbittern was dramatic). Trees formed a canopy over the river. The trip was tranquil although the river provided opportunities to try out our steering skills now and then. Note: if you wear glasses, bring croakies and leave cameras & binocs in lockers. Highly recommended!

The huge ceiba tres are worth seeing. The staff was great, could not ask anything more of them. Fold was great, they even cooked especial gluten-free dishes for us. Would recommend to make a reservation so they'd make the guide and bus wait for you.
