This time we spent 16 nights in Chilamate Rainforest Eco Retreat. And every day was interesting. We have seen so much wildlife there! You don't have to look for the agoutis - they came every morning. Just like Alfaro's Pygmy Squirrels. They were feeding on the fruits fallen dawn fron the trees. We had so much fun watching them every morning!
And the strawberry frogs and green and black posison dart frogs live near the restaurant under a big mango tree - we saw them and heared them every day. Of course you can see here Red-eyed Treefrogs!
You can see there trogons, toukans, chachalacas, howling monkeys, hummingbirds and even a kinkajou!
Chilamate Rainforest Eco Retreat is a wonderful quiet place for relaxing and enjoying nature and wildlife.
Meghan and her staff make your stay unforgettable. We enjoyed our breakfasts and dinners very much.
Hopefully we can visit them 2014 again!

I booked this Eco-Retreat based on the tripadvisor reviews and what we were looking for ... local appeal and adventure. We got what we were looking for!! This place was truly unique and a great stay. We were caught a bit off guard when showing up and discovering we needed to walk to the retreat ~ no cars allowed after bridge kept washing out. So, we hiked the quick road / trail, while the guys hauled our luggage in wheelbarrows.

Once we arrived we were personally greeted by Meghan. She showed us to the lodge and let us settle in before heading back to the main area for dinner.

Our room was amazing ... doors opened up to the veranda that overlooked the rainforest. Very basic in amenities, but that is expected when staying at an Eco-Retreat. We didn't want a 4 star resort.

The food was really good and the hospitality was exceptional. Meghan and her crew did a fantastic job of hosting us or a couple nights.

We did a nature hike with William @ the retreat, white water rafted with a local company, played and swam in the river right outside the lodge, and took a tour of an organic pig farm.

We really enjoyed our stay at Chilamate Rainforest Eco Retreat!

We stayed here for 2 nights at the end of November, its a lovely place, excellent hosts, Meghan and Emma were wonderful and were there for anything we needed. The retreat is in a lovely location and we were fortunate enough to have a guided night walk through the forest, boots are provided by the lodge. A day trip to the Costa Rica Nature Pavillion (also a National Geographic Tour Destination )was an early start but so worth it, we saw so many birds and were able to watch Humming birds close up, also Toucans and woodpeckers. There is a Very nice River at the Resort which you can swim in but it also attracts all sorts of birds and there is always something to watch there.

We may have marked down on the rooms and Cleanliness but its only because the rooms are dated a bit so gave the impression that they could have been cleaner/fresher but it didn't worry us and wouldn't stop us coming back here again, just something to bear in mind, after all this is an eco resort and they work very hard at it. The food was very good and varied each day.

For any Chocolate lovers there is a very good Chocolate tour of about 2.5 hours near by during which you cross a suspension bridge to the Tirimbina forest.

All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it.

Thanks to everyone in the lodge for the nice stay. Even though we stayed there only for 4 days we felt like part of the family. The staff (better familymembers) where great. We enjoyed the djungle room, the food was great, and the djungle in the "backyard" makes the place perfect. We did the recommended coffee tour and chocolate tour and both where very good. Also for two kids (9+11). The river next to the place is great for swimming and our kids loved the jump of the bridge.
There is no better place to stay if you like the nature and a familiar sourrounding. I would love to come back but with a week to stay.

Room Tip: We enjoyed the djungle lodge room for families with up to 3 kids

You love it real, you love it pure, you love it natural... It is the perfect place! Very nice people welcoming you and a simple wonderful experience in the rainforest. Our very first night in Costa Rica, we arrived late at night (2 adults, 2 children) and first steps out of the car we could already hear all beautiful sounds of the rainforest. It is simple, it is real, it is heaven!

We recently spent 3 nights at Chilamate and after the first we where ready to go. Not because of anything but how horribly the beds where. In cabin 1 the beds are next to impossible to sleep on. Secondly the showers do not maintain a temperature. So they go from perfect to freezing then from freezing to scalding.
That being said the area is very beautiful the food that was served was very good, the staff are very helpful and accommodating.
But new beds are really needed

This was our first stop on our 10 day trip in CR. We had a lovely time at Chilamate. The staff are organized, responsive & friendly. The accommodations were very clean with hot water showers. Beautiful maintained trails with a knowledgeable guide. The staff helped us to arrange our adventures. The food here is EXCELLENT & worth staying in for. We ventured our for lunch one day to try something different & regretted not staying to eat at Chilamate. There is a bridge & rope swing to jump off of right outside the property which was really fun. Would highly recommend this location.

Room Tip: The cabins are in a separate area from the hostel (in the back of the property) & allow for priv...
