My dad works for Marriott so I have been staying at Marriott's for a very long time. I always have a high expectation for the amenities and staff when I check in but my expectations aren't always met. However, that certainly is not the case with this Marriott. My expectations were well exceeded.

Usually when staying on an employee rate, I am given the least desirable room in the hotel. However, when the front desk agent learned we were celebrating my birthday, without hesitation, she gave us a large room with an incredible view.

Fabian in the coffee shop shared with us the rich history of coffee plantations in Costa Rica and specifically the history of the coffee plantation that was previously where the Marriott now stands. He not only made us the best traditional Costa Rican coffee we have had, but he served us a wealth of knowledge and pride of his home country as well.

We weren't able to take advantage of the amenities aside from the hot tub, which was very well designed with slanted backs to optimize relaxation, but we enjoyed the ambiance of the hotel.

We live in Costa Rica and have decided to make this Marriott our "staycation" place of choice. We look forward to returning in a few months.

Excellent stay for business or pleasure. Near the airport. Nice Spa, driving range and tennis court. Executive lounge all day. Easy check in and check out. Nice "cafetal" at the entrance and gift shops

My wife & I have had the opportunity to stay at a variety of Marriott hotels over the years and have always been satisfied with each and every one of them; regardless of where it may have been located. Having recently stayed at the Marriott in San Jose however - tops them all, thus far. If going to San Jose Costa Rica, I would highly recommend this hotel!

Room Tip: The ONLY issue with our room, was that we could clearly hear persons walking / talking within the ha...

I stayed here for two nights after arriving in San Jose. The hotel is 10 minutes from the airport. Cose enough to be convenient, far enough to not be bothered by the planes. The place was in great condition, seemed fairly new, and was very clean. The pool and lounge area are beatiful and not to be missed. The absolute best thing about this hotel was the staff. Everyone was helpful, friendly and genuinely happy. It was obvious they enjoyed working there and it showed in how they treated the guests.

This hotel is beautiful... I have just checked in and was greeted with a warm towel. Our room wasn't quite ready yet so we were given a key to the executive lounge. Just beautiful! Can't wait to explore the property!

It is a very short cab ride from the airport, which is a welcome relief after a long flight from the US. This is actually a former coffee plantation, and you can tell the moment you arrive. I was pleasantly surprised how quiet it was, given it's proximity to the airport. But you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere.

The old style rooms are very cool - the kids liked all of the decorations around the hotel. The restaurant was OK - mostly American fare. Good for the kids, but boring for the adults. But the service was great.

If you need to pass through San Jose, on to your travels elsewhere in the country, this is a great option. Much preferred versus navigating into the city. The traffic, noise, pollution - I have done that before and I'm glad we didn't do it again.

This is a beautifully hotel constructed to look like an old spanish hacienda. The staff is magnificent. Our hotel room was beautiful, but the carpet was cleaned leaving a really strong chemical odor throughout our five-day stay. We were there for a wedding, but the place is close to nothing at all. It is expensive to get out - $25 to the City. You cannot go walking off the premises, as it is all surrounded by industrial-type dwellings and empty lots; and then a hike up to the main highway, which again is all lined-up with manufacturing companies of every kind. I did not see sidewalks anywhere. The food is quite good, but you will soon tire of it, as the food in their four restaurants comes from only one kitchen! The best thing is their cocktails. They have great bartenders--who will fix you anything and then some more.

Room Tip: Higher floors have a better view.
