“welcome to the Country ... Inn”
Reviewed April 28, 2010

It is difficult to rate this property, because it depends so much on what you are really expecting out of it.

Is it close to the airport? Yes it is technically but it is all backcountry roads with no names or numbers and you only make turns based on landmarks (like all of CR, so be careful, or get a GPS) Time wise it may be the closest, but its in no way the easiest to get to from the airport, especially at night. One turn gets you to the highway to get into San Jose, but you do go out of your way if going back to the airport.

Is it in a nice town or area? Hard to say, the town its in is impossible to get around due to one way streets and no names on streets. There are some 'rough' areas that you find when you're lost, but where the hotel is seems pretty much like the rest of CR, not great, not bad. Just remember it is by the Panasonic factory and anyone can help you find that.

Does everyone have to stay by the airport when they are coming into CR or going?? Yes it seems the flights dictate an airport stay.

Is it worth the money?? No way. Over a hundred dollars for this? If you're ok with paying that much for a country feel to a motel 6 type inn, then go right ahead. Unfortunately we stayed at 3 places near the airport and not one of them were worth the money, so good luck finding one. I suggest using hotel rewards points since the 'americanized' hotels are very pricey in the area.

Is the service good, and the people friendly?? Absolutely. We got in very early in the morning and they had a room available for us so that we could take a nap after our overnight flight. You will not get that at a chain hotel for sure. Reception people spoke English well enough, but do not expect the other staff to be fluent.

Amenities. Room was nice and clean. The bed was definately on the hard side, although i was so tired I could have slept on the hard wood floors. We had a small fridge. Dark drapes to make it dark enough to sleep easy. Breakfast in the morning was fresh and half buffet style. Pool looked refreshing although we did not use it. Bring your own shampoo and soap if you are particular about that. I did not see the computer in the lobby as others had noted, and did not try to log onto their wifi, so verify that before you arrive if that is important. There is a large restaurant as you arrive on the property, but it is expensive (like all food in CR) we did not eat at.

Hopefully this review helps you decide what is important to your stay, and how long you will be there to decide for yourself. If I ever return to CR I will be heading out of the San Jose area as fast as my car will take me....

Like most of the other reviewers we stayed here on the first and last night of our trip and it was an excellent choice of airport hotel. The staff were friendly, the rooms huge and well decorated and the breakfast was of excellent quality. (it is served in a cafe within the complex that is also open to the public) The free internet access was a bonus, allowing us to check-in online for our flights before we left.
We ate in the steak house as it is the only place available but as a vegetarain, there was nothing on the menu suitable for me and I had to have just vegetables and chips! I was grateful that I had taken Spanish lessons before my trip as the waiters spoke very little English.

We stayed here the first and last nights of our trip as it is near the airport. It has a restaurant on site which had decent food.. The place is clean and comfortable with air conditioning, nice staff, and comfortable rooms. One of our rooms had a mini-fridge. Potable water, electricity, and typical hotel amenities. Quiet location.

We chose El Rodeo for our first night of rest after a very long flight before embarking on our Costa Rica road trip. It was great for that purpose.
The hotel was very clean, bright, comfortable, roomy and the staff was very helpful and pleasant. The steak restaurant on the property was also very good. The location itself is not that special, but for us it was close enough to the airport / car rental, close to pre-road trip shopping and close enough to the highway for an easy “get out of town”.

Great hotel, you would never know it by the outside as you are driving to it, in the middle of the town of Heredia.
The best steakhouse right on the premises, beautifully cleaned and very nicely decorated rooms.
Great bar with beautiful flowing white curtains.
Great great place to stay, very good breakfast also.

  • Liked — the decor and cleanliness
  • Disliked — not too centrally a little far from San Jose so if you need to go there this would be a little ways

We stayed at the El Rodeo on our first and last nights of a Gate1 Travel tour. No complaints. The hotel is comfortable, the rooms are spacious and it adjoins the Rodeo Restaurant which is a local steak house and quite popular with the locals. Travelers should know this hotel is quite near the airport ( 20 minutes or less) but is not in San Jose and requires a taxi ride if you want or need to head to town.

The neighborhood adjoining the hotel is NOT for walking, especially after dark.

There is a single internet-connected PC, and although it is totally free, you will need to be diligent to find it available. The hotel has a small lobby and bar area, and breakfast served a few hundred yards away in a small facility.

There is a small pool and a hot tub as well.

  • Liked — Spacious rooms, wood floors
  • Disliked — Out of the way location

When choosing a place to stay in Costa Rica I was clear I didn't want to waste time figuring out how to get to places, or crossing the city. El Rodeo Hotel is a small but confortable inn, kind of with a country style but so close to the airport and city! We arrived and were there within 20 minutes, the staff was sincere and friendly and the facilities surpassed our expectations.
Definitely recomended for families, business travelers and leisure travelers.
