“Nice hotel- if you don't get lost.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 5, 2012

We had one night here, resting from the flight and before embarking on a tour to Monteverde. The hotel is nice, the staff very professional and competent in English. The restaurant experiences we had were good.
Things are a tad overpriced-- $7 beer and $9 wine seems a bit high, given prices in the area. But the food was good, the AC works fine, and we had a good sleep.
The worst thing about the hotel is the layout. It's some funky spiral/octopus shape, with room numbers that don't relate-- you're walking down a hallway and a sign points "501-509" to the left and "221-240" to the right. We couldn't go anywhere and get back without returning to the room from a different direction.
Internet is $10 per day in your room but free in the lobby or around the pool. Nice pool area.
Location feels dodgy, with a major highway and not much to see on it very near, but going out another way you can walk easily to an area with a couple restaurants and a "Fresh mart" which has everything you could possibly want in terms of food and beverage, all well prices. They will let you buy in dollars there too, but you'll get change in Colones, the local currency.

All in all, it was a good experience.

Room Tip: Ask for a hotel layout-- some are probably easy to get to.

Because our flight got us into San Jose late we decided to crash here one night before setting out to Quepos.

The staff are very friendly and the pool was great. Also enjoyed the casino and the interesting characters we encountered there.

The bar food was bad but we were hungry so it didn't really matter. We had some time in the morning so we walked around as much as we could. It's location isn't near anything worthwhile, but it is convenient in that you can get to SJO and Pavas (regional airport) withing 15 minutes.

Several Internet computers in the lobby. That was appreciated. $1/minute local calls were prohibitive, but you can get a calling card at the conveniently located supermarket around the block.

The bathroom was good. It had a scale and full tub. If we stayed here more than one night we might have appreciated the staff more, but really it was just a layover for us and I got it on hotel points so... all in all: it served its purpose.

I stayed here for a week in mid-Feb and found it quite satisfying. This was my first trip to CR and there were other options, but I can't imagine there being a better place. The staff was very friendly, attentive and well spoken. I requested a balcony room overlooking the pool area and was acommodated once a room was available. The free breakfast was a definite plus and was fabulous. Anything you could wish for and fresh-squeezed OJ everyday.

Just be sure to check your bill as I had a few erroneous charges. My only complaint!

Room Tip: As recommened by others on this site, request a 2nd level room away from the lobby area. The interio...

I have stayed at this hotel many times over the last 10 years. They employees at this property really know how to treat guests. The bellmen not only assist with your luggage, but will assist you in reserving a taxi, picking you up and getting you back to the airport. You can even e-mail the hotel in advance and request to have the hotel shuttle meet you at the airport when you arrive Costa Rica.

The rooms are updated and are well maintained. The rooms include a refrigerator and wireless internet. The rooms have airconditioning and windows that open. The hotel is going through several great new changes. They are setting up a coffee shop and bar in the lobby area, they have relocated their business center to the main floor. They have a great souvineer and gift shop and the salon is moving to a new location. I have also used the Concierge to travel to see the sights in Costa Rica, they are very helpful and provide you alot of information about all the attractions.

The food in the restaurant is incredible. The breakfast buffet is awesome and their is a chief who will customize any order.

There is a grocery store and other restaurants withiin walking distance.

By the way, you can pay your departure tax at the hotel to save time at the airport. It's about $4 more, but well worth it if you have an international flight early in the morning and don't want to stand in line.

I always look forward to returning to this property and know many colleagues who also stay at this property who share the same review as me.

Perfect for a night at the beginning or end of a trip to Costa Rica. Wouldn't spend more than the minimal hours in San Jose.

Room Tip: Ask for a poolside room w/ a balcony. Others face a highway.

The staff at this hotel where excellent!! The warm chocolate chip cookies are always some of the best !!! The outdoor feel to this hotel was very neat, open- and airy !!! This hotel was one of the cleanest I have ever seen, amazingly clean and neat !!The location next to the airport and feet from a grocery store and resteraunts was a huge plus.
The room was larger than the typical hotel room. The tv in the room was a 50 inch and it received numerous English speaking channels. The bed was wonderful and the sheets where amazing. We never heard a sound when we where in the room very peaceful and quite. The shower and water pressure where excellent.
The workout room was wonderful. Numerous treadmills, bikes, and elliptical machines that where all brand new. The weight machines where wonderful and state of the art. It was a great place to workout !!
The breakfast bar was very nice with numerous choices and made to order omlettes and waffles. This is located in a nice indoor-outdoor area by the pool, very charming !!
The only negative about this hotel was the pool temperature. Was so looking to relaxing in the jacuzzi at night and the water was cold. Other wise this was a great hotel !!!

This was our second visit to this hotel, both stop overs on the way in/out of Costa Rica- one in 2011 and one late Feb. 2012. The first visit was OK- we got in late, left early. No real issues. This time- wow, what a disappointment. We had more time in the room and hotel and noticed a lot more. The lampshades in the room had black mildew on them. Nice. In the morning after I had showered I was walking around in bare feet on the tile floor. I felt a bit of grit, looked at the bottom of my feet- they were filthy- had to wash up again. Again, nice. One of the drapes had a big rip in it. Not what you expect in a Hilton.

Pros- the beds are comfy. The rooms are spacious. The prebuy prices for rooms with Hilton generally are super deals. The hotel shuttle is convenient, although not free. The hotel is located across from a mall area with several good and reasonably priced restaurants and bars.

Cons- Cleanliness! The tub drain was also half blocked which left us both standing in calf deep water- icky. The prices for drinks in the bar are ridiculously high for Costa Rica. The staff on both visits were friendly and helpful.

Would we do it again?- probably not.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the lobby and not on the front driveway area. As an airport hotel, people...
