“Pura Vida! Amazing in every way!”
Reviewed March 24, 2014 via mobile

This was a trip of a lifetime. The setting is spectacular, the service friendly, and the activities unforgettable. We are just ending our stay at this amazing resort. My family (husband, two boys, parents) and I just stayed three nights here. We loved it! The highlights: frog night tour, toucan feeding, butterflies, hummingbird feeding. The boys also loved the trout fishing and I enjoyed my piña colada watching them. All of the people were so attentive. Jose Maria at the fishing taught my son how to fly fish and took the fish off the hook, plus put the bait on. Lady Diana in the butterfly exhibit took the time to explain the life cycle of the butterfly and teach my sons how to properly handle them. John who checked us in and took us on the frog tour went above and beyond - so patient and friendly. Daniel delivered food to our villa on several occasions and was so serviceable. The lady at the hummingbird feeding was so nice. Jeison and the other handler in the toucan exhibit went out of their way to make the experience memorable for my sons. The truth is that as soon as you walk into Peace Lodge, everybody goes out of their way to make you feel like family. We stayed in the Villa Lago which is beautiful, spacious, and has a spectacular terrace. Every thing was very clean and well cared for. This resort lives up its name and the Costa Rican catch phrase - Pura Vida!

We had our family at the lodge for four nights over grandchildren's spring break. It was a wonderful experience. Stayed in two connecting deluxe rooms with roll away beds provided for children. The rooms are large, the bathrooms are huge......two showers, one tub, two sinks, separate toilet. Hot tub on the balcony. The kids fed toucans, hummingbirds, milked cows, saw amazing frogs and watched jaguars and others being fed. They caught rainbow trout and the staff cooked them, so we got to eat their catch. The staff goes out of their way to be helpful and always with a smile. We also went horseback riding and took a zip line through the rainforest, all arranged by the front desk employees. This was a magical time making great family memories and the Lodge and ALL the employees were a great help.

Room Tip: The deluxe are on the second floor, which means great views, but on previous stays we have been on f...

The uniqueness of this 1st class boutique hotel is hard to beat! Its setting in a rain forest along with the most beautiful environmentally decorated rooms I have ever observed outside of Africa, makes this place a "must stay", at least for a couple of days, if you are visiting Costa Rica.
The animal habitats, and tours thereof, were remarkable & quite memorable, to say the least. The nature walk along a winding path through the grounds behind the hotel itself, will remain vividly in your mind for years to follow. The restaurant is also first rate…we strongly recommend this place to anyone we know visiting this wonderful country, as a 'must-see" at the beginning, or the end of their vacation, since it not far from the San Jose Airport. My wife's sister and her son will be spending a couple of days there as his mother's graduation gift from Bucknell University later this year...per our recommendation, and we have no doubt they will be thanking us upon their return!

Room Tip: They do not have many, so book in advance not to miss out! I would assume any & all rooms are o...

They by far exceeded our expectations. From the warm and personalized welcome we received, to our gorgeous room covered in detail and so romantic, to the food, to the park. And most importantly, every single employee we encountered was professional, hospitable and so friendly. My Husband and I visited several places in Costa Rica and the Peace Lodge by far, was one of our best experiences. We definitely want to go back someday!

What I loved...
- The service was far better than any I have ever received before. Everyone was genuinely friendly... I never once got the impression that they were only nice to my face and then talked about me behind my back.
- There were plenty of activities to keep my 3 kids busy. Feeding animals, holding butterflies, swimming, fishing for lunch, side tours to horseback riding and zip-lining.
- Beautiful scenery. The view from our balcony was spectacular! Walking along the trails lets you see stunning waterfalls.

What I didn't like...
- Our bed was very uncomfortable. One side felt like sitting on a board and the other was not so bad, but then you rolled to the middle.
- The food was just ok. I was expecting a more authentic Costa Rican cuisine. Instead, it was mainly American food. And, just ok tasting at that.

Additional FYI...
- Everywhere you walk is either on an incline or stairs. Be prepared to climb.
- Meal cost $10-15 per person for breakfast and lunch and $25-35 per person for dinner.
- There are additional times and activity combinations available other than what is posted on their excursion brochure. For instance, we wanted to zip-line and thought from the brochure that we would be horseback riding up into the mountains to the first platform and zip-lining back. No, the riding and the zip-lining start from and end at the same place. Also, there are other places they will take you besides the ones posted on their brochure. Just talk to the front desk. John was very helpful to us. (There were 7 of us, so anything we wanted to do was a van full.)

Room Tip: A room on the end away from the pool will have less foot traffic noise. If traveling with more than...

The view from our balcony made us feel like we were in a private cottage in the mountains on the edge of a rainforest. Our room and ensuite bathroom were huge and rustically beautiful, well equipped with the exception of an oversight--no hand lotion. The restaurant was lovely for a romantic dinner; however, the food was slightly disappointing. The meat was overcooked and the food cooled down before we finished eating. Breakfast was good but the eggs were undercooked (despite specifically requesting them to be well done) and cream was not available for the coffee. The animal rescue, butterfly observatory and guided waterfalls hike were outstanding experiences.

The Peace Lodge is incredible. We travelled there without three small boys to start an 8 day trip in Costa Rica. It is a gorgeous and family friendly hotel, where kids can really get up close with the animals. Every single staff member here remembers your name, and works hard to see that you will return. Very impressive.
