The ride to the Peace Lodge is anything but peaceful, but upon arrival, it is stunningly beautiful and relaxing. The staff is exceptionally friendly and accommodating. The rooms and grounds are beautiful, and offer a lot to be seen between hiking down to the La Paz falls, and all of the wildlife exhibits that they have. The breakfast and dinner at the upstairs restaurant were wonderful, although the lunch at the Trout bar wasn't particularly memorable. All in all, this was a great stop for 3 days!

What a beautiful and special place! The rooms are so unique with 2 showers( one a waterfall) two jacuzzis ( one out on your deck overlooking the rainforest and animal sanctuary) and a fireplace! The staff is SO helpful and friendly-- you feel like family by the time you leave. The La Paz Waterfall Gardens and Wildlife Refuge are a highlight and excursions taken off the property are unique, fun and informative. A YES for those looking for a different kind of vacation!

My husband and I came to the Peace Lodge for 3 days for a belated honeymoon and felt so blessed to be in such a breathtaking place. The Peace lodge & its grounds is absolutely stunning and I'll be hard pressed to have the opportunity to stay somewhere this beautiful again. The staff is so awesome and they do everything to make you feel like you are getting a class A experience. And hello, 2 amazing showers and 2 Jacuzzi tubs in the room which we used all of them as we were freezing everyday. I only brought one pair of pants, light jacket and a rain jacket which were not enough. It was very cold and rainy except one day and I had a difficult time feeling comfortable. The fireplace in the room was really beautiful but it did little to heat the room well. The beds however were warm and cozy! I was lucky enough to purchase this hotel from Groupon so I'll just preface my next sentence with I have champagne tastes on a beer budget. With that being said the only dinner restaurant was very expensive $24 - 30 entrées, $15 drinks etc. The food was "good to great" and would not have minded having a $150 tab for 2 for one nice evening but was disappointed that it is the only option and had to do it every night. We rented a car too and trust me, we searched for other restaurants only to find that the few that are available in the area are only open for breakfast and lunch. The restaurant was very cold too even next to the fire place and since I was so cold the whole time I had a hard time relaxing and enjoying my expensive meals. The last night we ordered room service for only $5 additional charge which was really nice. If your already spending the $400 + per night than you probably didn't get it on a groupon and don't mind paying for overpriced food and drinks etc. But if your a little bit cheap like myself, a good tip is to bring up some bottles of wine and beer for the room as we just had our cocktails there and tried not to worry about the cost of the meals. And don't forget to pack some extra warm layers, maybe you'll get lucky and not need them but you will be so much happier if you do.

Room Tip: All rooms are amazing!

Thank you very much for your review and choosing Peace Lodge for your belated honeymoon. Our wheather is very unpredictable here in the cloud/rain forest and we are sorry you found it uncomfortable to adjust.

It rained constantly for two days, and we didn't care. We loved visiting the hummingbirds, toucans, frogs (the night frog tour with John was great), and butterflies, and we enjoyed the walk along the waterfalls as well. The hotel staff gave us large umbrellas and that was enough protection to keep us going. It was also lovely to sit out on our (covered) balcony and watch the hummingbirds dive at our feeder as well as to warm up in the jacuzzi, also on our balcony. The staff is superb--Jonathan, John, Jason, Byron (at one of the restaurants). We also appreciated the guides standing by to answer our questions about the birds and the butterflies: they were patient, kind, and informative.

A very special place.

We had a wonderful experience! The staff and hotel, restaurants and activities were all exceptional... From the time we arrived until departure we were treated like royalty. All of the staff was very attentive and kind. It was obvious that every effort was made to accommodate our needs. It was our first time to Costa Rica but will not be our last...Daniel , Reynald and Byron were very helpful in ensuring our vacation was the best! Jose and Edward helped us to catch trout in the trout pond and then the lovely ladies cooking at the trout bar cooked them to perfection! Not to mention the drinks were fabulous! Byron makes a mean margarita! Sophie, Vanessa and the massage therapist were great! Honestly there are too many names to mention! It was by far our best vacation ever!!! My husband and I went alone but it is a great place for a family vacation or a romantic getaway. They were also able to accommodate my gluten free request due to Celiac disease.

Room Tip: All of the rooms were absolutely amazing! Loved the detailed craftsmanship

We began our stay in Costa Rica at the Peace Lodge. The setting was spectacular and our room exotic, with a huge waterfall in the bathroom and a great view into the lush settings. It was a little cooler than I expected, with only one out of three days warm enough for shorts and a bathing suit, but I was just beginning to learn how the weather changes many times daily in the rainforest. I wished for another pair of long pants and a few more long-sleeved shirts. The staff were exceptional; everyone learned our names immediately and always addressed us personally. We found the food to be better than good at the restaurants. The Nutella flan was one of my favorite desserts ever! I was initially disappointed to find that most of the animals within the park, with the exception of the hummingbirds, were in confined areas. They are not animals necessarily native to the area, but have been rescued from inappropriate settings. Once I got over the disappointment, we really had a blast feeding toucans out of our mouths, hummingbirds out of our hands, and taking the night tour of the frogs (where the guide put frogs on our faces!) The waterfalls were beautiful. The staff put out fruit for the birds at breakfast each morning, and it was fun to see the variety of species. Although there are local tourists in the park during the day, we never got the feeling that it was crowded. The largest of the restaurants, near the big cats, where a buffet was served, had the poorest food on the property and did feel like a tourist trap. We thoroughly enjoyed our excursion to the Poas volcano, and our guides enjoyed helping us with our Spanish. We stayed at the lodge for three days, and kept busy. Although we really loved it there, I now feel like I have seen it, and will probably go elsewhere next time. The friendliness and warmth of the staff cannot be beat, however, and they jump to satisfy your every whim.

Room Tip: We loved our room. They are all named after butterflies. Ours was mycelia cyrtensis (I might be spel...

We stayed two nights at the Peace Lodge during Christmas time. Beautiful flora and fauna. The rooms are superior. Huge bathrooms. Great amenities. Indoor and outdoor jacuzzi, hammock, dvd player, iPod player, etc. The waterfall gardens and animal park were terrific. The onsite restaurants are small and the food is ok not great. The pool is breathtaking but small. Every view is gorgeous, peaceful and you are forced to relax and enjoy here. Take a tour to the Poas Volcano and the Doka coffee plantation.

Room Tip: Try to choose a villa closer to the reservation desk/restaurant for added quiet and fewer steps.
