I've been going to Pan e Vino in Heredia for almost 7 years now. I used to love it when it was inan old house in Downtown Heredia. Now it is in a strip mall close to Paseo de las Flores. It now has the feeling of a fast food joint...except the prices are definately not!

The prices have doubled in 5 years. A beer is now 1900 colones. The pizzas we always ordered are 14,000 colones ($28) for a "grande" which is a medium. The toppings are sparse. So is the amount of customers they have now. Friday night at 7:30 p.m. there was less than 10 people. The food and service were just ok, not nearly as good as it had been in the past. We also had Caesar salad - which was way too salty and cost $9.

We were regulars there. We were there so often, that the management gave us a VIP card to save 20%. Last night, not only did we discover that the prices had risen drastically - again, but they also took our VIP card away - saying that we couldn't use it anymore..

Pan E Vino is now following other similar Costa Rican restaurants. "Charge more because fewer people are coming." I don't mind paying if the food, service and surroundings are great. But, let's not forget, this is pizza restaurant - in a strip mall.

Yesterday I had to decided where to go with a client for lunch close to the International Airport in Alajuela, Costa Rica. The election was a restaurant franquise called Pane e Vino. one of them is located in Real Cariari Mall in the hotel area just 5 minutes from the airport. the Food has a good flavor, the presentation of the dishes are ok nothing supreme but ok.
The customer service is excellent the guys has a smile for every client and knows the menu very well. It doesn`t matter if the restaurant is in the comercial Mall and many people come in and out in the lunch time, the service is the same, that´s something that Iike and apreciate in every place i go alone, with clients or family.
The prices are a little expensive between $8-$12 the main dishes and the typical italian desserts $6-$9 dollars. Taxes are included in the price, so you don`t have to pay an extra.

We had been waiting for about an hour for our food, when we asked the waiter why we hadn't gotten our meals. Well, he reacted as if we had done something wrong, seemed to be really annoyed, and behaved rudely. When we finally got our food, we realized we had waited for nothing cause it wasn't that good (basically average...). The worst part is that the bill was really really high compared to other similar restaurants. In sum, terrible service, the food is ok but not wow, and the prices are HIGH! Go somewhere else.

Not really fancy or excellent food, but they do have a great choice in the menu.
