Attraction details
Owner description: Canopy Adventure "Barva Volcano" is located only 35 min. from the international airport and 40 min. from San Jose; on the province of Heredia at the foothills of the Barva Volcano. It was established in 1998 by a Forest Engineer on a private reserve of over 400 acres. Placed in the middle of a Cloud Forest, at about 7,000 ft above sea level, there are a total of 13 platforms and 8 cables crisscrossing a river while traveling on a protected biological corridor. Starting with easy cables and leaving the best for the end, a 600 ft. run over an amazing waterfall. Although the cables are unforgettable, the adventure is also about the forest, the guides love to share their knowledge of this unique environment with you on a nature walk that is worth the day trip by itself. Suitable for all ages, the youngest adventurer to do this ride was no more than 2 years old and the oldest one yet, 88 springs. Come fly through the cloud forest on this unforgettable adventure right in the Central Valley!!!!

I loved this experience. I took my 10 year old for her birthday, it was a surprise and she was delighted. Our 6 year old was with us and she was very confident and not scared to do it. The guides are very good and explain a lot about the forest.
The kids where attached like a train together with the guide to make them heavier in some zips.
At the end of the 8th zip the kids wanted to do it all over again!
The team is very professional and they are giving advices in Panama for some Canopy Tours and are building up one in Nicaragua. We felt very safe with them.
I like this canopy tour because is not all about the adrenaline rush, is also about the forest and conservation. Is also about being in comunion with nature.
We will come back for sure!

“Muy Bien - this is an excellent Canopy Tour”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

On our last day in Costa Rica, we made arrangements with Ingrid, the owner, to do their canopy tour. They picked us up at our hotel near the San Jose Airport and within just a 30 minute drive, we were at their location. They are on the Heredia Mountain in the cloud forest.

This canopy tour is so much more than just a zip line. Ingrid is a trained forester and this 600-700 acres of forested land is operated by her and her family. You will learn about the cloud forest, how it functions, and some history of the area. Benjamin and Jeffrey were awesome tour guides - they knew alot and made the experience fun.

We debated about other canopy tours, but settled on this one because of a recommendation from a friend who lives in San Jose. This one was close to the airport and our hotel. It was on a mountain, so the stairs are easy to climb to the platforms and you go down the side of the mountain through the trees. This is much a better than climbing hundreds of stairs (like other canopy tours) to get to the zip line itself.

Safety was number one priority, however there was no lack of fun at this canopy tour. We had a great time and would go back!

When we were all finished with our canopy tour and arrived back at the office, they had beautiful Costa Rican coffee and a piece of cake waiting for us. A very nice touch. We purchased tour that included a meal, and our group thought it was one of the best, if not the best meal we had while we were in Costa Rica. It was at the neighboring restaurant called Chago's.

Thank you everyone for a great end to our time in Costa Rica. We are suffering withdrawls already!

“The Best”
Reviewed January 26, 2013

Its a really good canopy if you like the rainforest. It has 8 platforms with the last ones being the scariest. The guides are really nice. The first 3 zips are calm but it gets faster.Franco and Jeffrey rocked and the cute extra kids made the ride even more fun!

“A great experience is a beautiful setting”
Reviewed December 9, 2012

This was my second time doing a canopy tour (my first was in Panama earlier this year).

The setting at Canopy Adventure Barva Volcano is absolutely beautiful. The staff is exceptional. They made sure that we knew what to do and how to do it safely. We also learned about the cloud forest and the environment. I am so happy that we added this experience to our vacation.

“Not Worth the Price”
Reviewed December 4, 2012

Safety excellent. The zips between the trees are short. Other than tress nothing to view in canopy. DVD of of you on your zips is mostly canned shots of mushrooms, foliage etc: recommend do not buy. If there is an alternative zip line experience try the alternative before CaNoPy Adventure monte de barva,

Thank you for your review. We are very proud to hear that our safety is excellent, this is something we make a priority on all our trips.

In regards with the distance of the lines between trees, we start with slow and short lines (the first one is about 60 ft. long) so people that are doing it for the first time can get comfortable, and then we move along to faster and longer cables (the longest one is 900 ft. long). When you travel on a "canopy" tour (cables that go from tree to tree like the ones we have) there is a length limit due to the maximum weight recommended for the type of trees the cables are on.

I am very sad to hear on your experience with us there was nothing to see other than trees. Our canopy is set on a primary cloud forest that is a private reserve dedicated to conservation. We try to make sure to share the importance of this reserve with all our guests and to do this we offer a nature hike before the trip in which we explain the importance of this particular ecosystem.

As for the photography service we offer, it is optional. at the end of the trip we always make a presentation so you can see the shots our photographer has made of your group. You know in advanced the pictures that we are giving you and yes, we add a selection of great shots of things (like mushrooms, flowers and animals) that you can find on this particular ecosystem. We also have a 100% satisfaction warranty on our product, and if you are not happy with your pictures once you have seen them we will be very happy to refund your money.

Once again, on behalf of our staff i want to apologize for not being able to make your experience an excellent one. It is reviews like yours that make us thrive to be better at what we love.
