“Wonderful Stay Over Christmas!”
Reviewed January 25, 2014

Staying at the Hotel Arco Iris was the best part of our trip to Costa Rica. We loved having coffee and breakfast out by the pool each morning--Coco is a wonderful omelet maker! The owner Richard set up several of our excursions and they were excellent. Make sure to have at least one dinner at the hotel restaurant (The Seasons) because it is outstanding. The walk to town was easy and gave everybody a chance to do what they wanted during the day. Great Christmas vacation!

Room Tip: Love the ground floor right next to the pool.

This hotel is a gem, and highly recommended. My friend and I are two 28 year old American guys, the owner turned out to be from Los Angeles, former psychologist who decided to change careers - he cares about the people staying there. The overall hotel (outdoor, beautiful pool, breakfast, rooms) were all above average/excellent. Clean, recently renovated rooms. And to boot, the restaurant there (not affiliated with the hotel directly) was the best food we had in Costa Rica.

Plus Gaby was solid in helping us book activities during the day.

I was recently on a family trip and we stayed at Arco Iris (which we were told means rainbows) for 8 nights. A rainbow it was! The people were just wonderful. Richard (the owner) was on site and always had a minute to stop and chat with us. Gaby (front desk) was very helpful and friendly. And Coco, well we can't say enough about our Coco - we wanted to bring her home with us. Coco makes breakfast with a huge smile every morning. We just loved her even though we speak different languages! You definitely don't feel like a room number staying at this hotel!

The accommodations were great. I stayed in the room closest to the pool. I understand what people are saying about noise. There is definitely noise. For me, this wasn't a problem in any way. The restaurant closed at 10pm - I don't know what time in the morning you have to be getting up at that you'd need to go to bed much earlier than that unless you have small children. Our room was spacious, clean and nicely decorated. I had a great sleep in my bed - I usually don't at a hotel so that is saying a lot!

We congregated outside all the time as our family took up 3 rooms. We never felt uncomfortable about the restaurant being right there. In fact, the restaurant is fabulous! We had dinner there twice. The rooms are really nice and clean and had everything we needed. The location was good as well. It is a bit of a walk to the beach (about 5 mins - I personally liked that).

The only thing I didn't like about the walk was the molasses on the road. The smell was weird and your shoes get sticky walking on it when fresh. But, I looked at it like this - people complain about the dusty roads so they put molasses down and woola! No more dust. It's actually a great, environmentally friendly, cost effective solution so my thought is to just appreciate it and being in a beautiful country that is not like home. Plus, the outdoor shower was perfect for cleaning off your shoes after walking on the roads.

Note: there is a small but fully stocked grocery store located just to the right of the 'y' at the end of the street. It is comparable in price to the big grocery store that you'd need to take a cab to. Great for buying water, liquor and snacks (we had happy hour every night :)

Overall - excellent stay! Thank you team Arco Iris!

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights over new year and very much enjoyed our stay. We found Richard the owner, very helpful during our stay, but also during the booking process when we contacted him over the phone. The location was good only five minutes walk from the centre of town, however one slight downside was the hotel is down a very dusty gravel road which unfortunately sometimes lead to you being quite dirty afterwards! However, we found that this was not uncommon in Costa Rica. On arrival we were very pleased to be allocated our room which was on the upper-level overlooking the pool and on a corner. However, this became a slight downside during the evenings as we noticed that the noise coming from seasons restaurant was quite considerable whilst we were trying to get to sleep. The room was very large, with two double beds. The bathroom was also great. We particularly loved the great swimming pool at this hotel. Nice and shaded with plenty of sun loungers. One point to note was that breakfast was relatively basic compared to some of the other hotels we stayed at during our time in Costa Rica. We would definitely recommend this hotel however if you are sensitive to noise we would recommend a room that does not directly face onto the pool.

We had a wonderful stay.
Peaceful and clean. A good restaurant right at the hotel. The walk to the beach is about 5 -10 minutes with many good choices to eat and drink along the way. There is a great gym about 2 blocks away just up the hill.
I would think if you were staying on one of the major streets the traffic noise and the dust could be a problem.

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon and had an excellent experience. The property was well maintained and the room was very clean. Our bungalow was the perfect size for the two of us with very comfortable accommodations. Breakfast every morning was very fresh and a great bonus to enhance our Costa Rican experience. The hotel felt separate from the main part of town but safe and close enough to walk to dinner and shopping so it was the perfect escape. The staff couldn't have been more helpful in arranging our stay, transportation, and various activities throughout our trip. Richard is extremely helpful and pleasant to work with. It was a great value and we would absolutely stay here again if we were in the area!

This is a nice little oasis from the busy main street in Tamarindo. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and comfortable with large bathrooms, a safe and closet space. Breakfast was included- granola, coffee, fruit & toast, which we appreciated after eating traditional Costa Rican breakfast daily for the previous 6 days. The pool area was nice, quiet. Unfortunately, we didn't get to eat at the restaurant, Seasons, as it was closed the night we were there. Richard, the owner, was friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend staying here.
