My wife and I had a wonderful time here at the hotel. We had already done our adventures in Arenal and came to Tamarindo to relax by the beach and pools and explore the city. The hotel was great. We had to wait about an hour for our room to be ready, but after that, we had no issues. We found the staff to be friendly. We did have one issue now that I remember about using a debit card vs credit card for incidentals, but we were persistent and kind about getting a supervisor to help us out. Breakfast every morning was amazing...in fact we actually went down to the Super to get our own bottle of Linzano Salsa to bring home haha. There was surfing out front, massages available. You have to get out early to get a lawnchair on the grass though. Also, we took advantage of the activities that the hotel offers on-site which most people did not. One morning, we did a long stretching routine...we did yoga another morning and a monkey came about 10 feet from us and watched us...talk about cool. we also took a spanish lesson, got a couple of free drinks from the cocktail lessons poolside. My suggestion for food (outside of breakfast) is to go to the sodas in town. the local food, known as Typical Costa Rican food, is the best. Our favorite was about a quarter-mile down the way to Fiesta Del Mar. They serve Yucca with black beans grounded for an appetizer and a dessert that's Arroz con Leche (rice pudding) served with a coffee liqueur extract. And the food that you order, is top notch. Anyways, I hope this helps. My wife loves the sunsets there as well...we have enough sunset photos to last us a while :)

We stayed at the Tamarindo Diria Beach Resort on our trip to Costa Rica. The location was awesome, as it's the only resort in downtown Tamarindo. You can literally walk to all the surf shops, restaurants, etc. The grounds are beautiful, with large pools, food and direct beach access. We decided to get a pool room view, so we were across the street from check in and the beach. It was still really close to everything, and was worth it to save a little money. I'm going to guess the ocean view is even better! The room was clean, cool at night and exactly what we were expecting. It's not super luxurious, but definitely better than your standard hotel (hence the reason for the four stars). The only real complaint I would have is the food service, as no one was smiling and super eager to help you with food or drinks. We only worked with a few of the wait staff, so this could have just been our luck of the draw. There were kids, but not an overwhelming amount. They have a swim up pool bar, but the time of year we were there, it wasn't super busy (it's at the pool across the street). Overall if I was to go back to Tamarindo, this would be the only place I would stay due to location alone. Check it out!

Room Tip: The pool room view was great. Very quiet, and across the street from check-in, the restaurant and beach access (but still right downtown and easy access to everything).

Saw another review with this pun, way too late for us. I should've done my homework on tripadvisor before booking. The hotel's grounds, location and design details are lovely. But that's where it ends. Someone who knows how to run a hotel needs to take this place over and retrain everyone who works there, starting with the front desk staff. The overall feel of service is begrudging, penny pinching and sub-par in every way. This is our second trip to Tamarindo, first and last to the Diria. Gone were the warm and inviting Costa Rican people I remembered from 10 years ago. This hotel's staff are unhappy, underpaid, and poorly managed. Very sad.

Our entire family got horribly ill with what's been diagnosed as travel's diarrhea. One of my daughters couldn't get on a plane and had to be given IV fluids in the hotel room just to regain her vitals. We've been sick for 5 days, up to a dozen trips to the bathroom per day, and are now on antibiotics. The hotel did nothing to help us except call in a doctor.

All of the negative reviews I've read here are true, DO believe them. It's sad because the resort has so much potential. We are seasoned travelers, and love Tamatindo for the magnificent surf; our kids are in their 20s and loved the town's funky vibe We were taking all the "small stuff" (see other negative reviews) in stride until we got sick. We even managed to laugh when my son's constant attempts to get a bath towel included locking one into the room safe ! It wasn't as funny to us as parents when one daughter called once again for towels and the man who brought them walked into the room and KISSED her. Inappropriate at best.

Yes we were there Easter week and the resort was very crowded and possibly terribly understaffed. But the lingering illness has left us with a very bad impression of this hotel and we cannot recommend it until the Board of Health and/or new management take over.

This was a great Hotel. The people were friendly and helpful, and the food and atmosphere were great!! We watched the sun set through the palm trees from the balconey of our room! They were really good at arranging tours for us. They arranged for a full moon tour of the Pacific turtles nesting. We saw the turtles laying eggs and we saw baby turtles scrambling to the water from an earlier nest, all under the light of a full moon. It was magical. I cannot say enough about the people who work there. They are all helpful and nice and funny and they make the stay really special. The room was very clean and the price was very reasonable. Thanks!!

Room Tip: Choose a room with the view of the ocean!

The hotel is in a great location. The beach, grass area for laying in the sun is great. Make sure you get up early put out your chairs with towels, they run out quickly. The food was great also. The breakfast satisfied all the people in our family. The food also was very good, fish, rice and drinks.
They have no elevator. so asked to be on the 1st or 2nd floor. The 3rd floor going up and down all day can be tiring. The rooms are older, but the view of the ocean makes up for the room.

Room Tip: Get a room on the 1st 2nd floor no elevators.
