“Great pools,”
Reviewed December 30, 2013

Beautiful property right on the ocean .Rooms were not first class,eg., plumbing is old, especially the shower which was not acceptable and the sink area was too small. The room however was large with a balcony overlooking the beach and ocean. Beautiful sunsets.
We were there during the Xmas holidays and expected some activity or celebration of the season but all they offered was a Xmas tree in the lobby and an overpriced dinner that evening.
Great pools but unfortunately the ocean water was filled with what we believed was volcanic sand and not very appealing
The town of Tamarindo has nothing to offer, very small, dirty and the traffic on the 2 lane street
requires a guard to help you cross.Great place to catch up on your reading

Loved the stay at the Diria. It seems the entire town of Tamarindo is built on this hotel. We saw a few other hotels in town, and though we didn't go in, none seemed to be as big or expansive as the Diria. Be sure to ask to stay in an ocean front suite, or at least in the ocean front building. There is another building across the street that is also the Diria with a huge pool. For my money I'd rather stay ocean front.

Breakfast buffet is alright. Drinks are good, but service is a little slow. Prices are slightly lower outside of the hotel than at the hotel.

Very friendly guest services. Clean rooms. Easy to walk in town - as the hotel is smack in the middle of Tamarindo.

On the beach check out vendors, lay out, or book at tour with Ronald - as in Ronald Reagan. That's how he introduced himself. Nice guy! Took a tour to the Rincon del Viejo with him, and got our money's worth, and then some.

Go sailing with the South African family's boat for a sunset cruise - scuba diving, chef prepared meals and all you can drink rum punch. They setup shop down the beach from the Diria in front of a restaurant.

All together great stay. Great time!

Room Tip: On the beach, maybe not first floor to avoid the morning rush of breakfast and the setup to breakfas...

I would rate our stay Good but this is not an option, so went with Very Good as it was as Average seemed to do the resort a dis-service.

Our room -second level - overlooked the family pool, with the swim up bar and we liked it. It was quiet, easy access to TWO pools, the nicest on the resort and well, I think I preferred it to the beach fronting rooms which were noisy, faced tons of people during the day and had a crappy pool. Yes, you got a beach view and easy beach access, but all it took for us to reach the beach was cross the road, so no big deal. I think the ocean front rooms are overrated and this coming from someone who thought otherwise, before the vacation.

Room was decent size with a king bed, decent size bathroom and balcony. Cleaniless is average as I always felt like there was sand on the floor and staff did not sweep daily. Water pressure (for shower) is not great and there is no hairdryer provided. Fridge and safe for belongings are provided.

On the garden side, we had access to two pools - family pool and an adult pool which is the newest part of the hotel and was the nicest (cleanest and newest) of all three pools. On most days, we had the entire thing to ourselves and it was not crowded at the family pool either. Unlike the ocean front side which was always busy. Pool on that side was also not great.

The resort is small and staff generally friendly. Location is great, as you are smack in the middle of the main drag with shops, restaurants and bars on either side. It is not noisy either as things are pretty subdued generally.

Decent buffet breakfast.

Beach is decent with soft brown sand, waves for beginner surfers and good fun to play in. One thing - locals/expats living there often bring their dogs to the beach and on one occasion, I saw a pooch pooping in the sea and the owner did not pick it up. Blah!

On the whole, good stay.

Room Tip: Second level rooms on ocean or garden side;

Stayed there with little baby girl and wife. The location is very good, with many options of restaurants, shops and the beach just ahead. Service was good, the staff was very attentive and did their best to improve our experience. Recommend taking a massage under the palm trees as the sun sets. My wife had while I was running after the baby and she was very happy!

Room Tip: the hotel is very big and some rooms can be too far away from main restaurants and pools

Well they don't call it TamaGRINGO for nothing. Our room was $240 a night for a very small room which was not well sound proof. When we checked in the Front Desk knew we were waiting for our room at 9am and after checking back several times the room was still not ready at 3PM. We had to demand a different room. Happy Hour is 50% off but not enough bartenders so you have to wave your hands for service very frustrating. Front desk staff is not trained at all. Hotel had a band come in and play which was located in bar area close to several rooms (ours included) and they played until after 10PM. Not very thoughtful for people who are trying to get sleep. Over priced and poor service and not relaxing.

Room Tip: Steer clear of the Garden Rooms which are located on the street.

Stayed from 01 Dec - 03 Dec and first impression were good. Nice resort, with accommodation split by the main road. Check in was relatively trouble free, albeit took quite some time as it appears they were understaffed. Proclaimed as a 4 star place, and for the most part that the case with the surroundings, beach front access, main building and attached restaurants great. Rooms more 3 star, quite basic, with no fridge, iron, hairdryer, but thats about it. Only 5-10 mins walk to restaurants in the town and sub 5 mins to plenty of surf shops.

I would never stay there again even though they made good for what was stolen.Room had no refrigerator,iron.......and put us outside construction area with cement mixer at 6 am
