“Restful-On the Pacific Ocean-Worth It!”
Reviewed January 19, 2013 via mobile

We spent a wonderful deeply restful 5 days (Jan 7-11). Safe & Quiet. The ground floor room was comfortable, clean, had a patio & best of all the slider doors opened facing the ocean. Lovely direct ocean view. The beautiful sunset was the Daily event. Everyone went to the beach to watch & all activity came to a halt. Despite being fairly occupied with couples (straight & gay) & families of all ages, the hotel & grounds were quiet. No loud music. Guests were considerate. Daily breakfast was included & was quite a spread. The staff was attentive & polite. The upscale hotel provides day trips to other interesting parts of the country as well as group & private surf lessons. Also available were massages & yoga under the palm trees. There is free wi-fi for guests, although I had difficulty connecting my iPhone & iPad. Once I was connected, I stayed connected. They provide only body towels. You do have to ask for hand towels, wash clothes & bath mats. We plan to return.

The hotel is located right on the beach. The ocean front views were outstanding. The food at the hotel was excellent one night and average the next night. The room quality was very good, but the bathroom was small and needed a remodel. The morning buffet was very good at the hotel. I would recommend staying on the beach vice the new hotel across the street. US dollars and credit cards are widely accepted, so you do not need to convert money into local currency

Room Tip: Ocean front rooms are awesome

We stayed at Tamarindo the first week of January, it was great, and more after a horrible experience in La Fortuna, it was nice, relaxing, the staff great, the food, everything, just great.. We will go back in two years..

Stayed here on our second part of our Honeymoon to Costa Rica. If I had to do it over again, I'd just stay in Manuel Antonio. I don't like the busyness, crowd, busy and the "hey, look at me scene." It felt like a lower class version of Miami or Rio. Now if this is your scene, definitely go.

Don't get me wrong, the hotel is on some beautiful land. If you get an ocean side view, don't get one close to the bar (room 103). If you want to get a chair for sunbathing in the morning, go early. Most are gone by 730-8am. Just drop a beach towel and some small item on the chair. The beach is great. You'll get a wristband and there's a guard gate at the entry way. Be prepared to be greeted by people to either sell you an item or give you surf lessons. Not a bad place to learn how to surf. Great beginner level
Area.

Other than surfing, definitely go on the atv tour. It's a great ride for 2-3
Hours. Book the one for sunset or snorkeling or both. We had JJ as our guide. He was great.

Other than that, can't speak too much of our hotel room. It was noisy from bar. (The breakfast buffet was decent). We did find our bed unmade after we checked in, a couple of light bulbs out too. Room was quite small. Bed was decent. Oh always check your room bill. Since ppl
Charge things to the rooms. overall, an average rating and low value.

We had a wonderful relaxing time at Diria. The hotel immediately earns points for its location smack in the middle of a wonderful, long, curving, can't-take-your-eyes-off-of-it beach. The staff is very kind and will respond to any issues with great care. There are several well-maintained pools, breakfast is excellent (fresh waffles, omelettes, tons of fruit, yogurt, juice, baked goods, etc.), and several surfing schools are steps away.

A few non-issues: there are no hot tubs/jacuzzis, and vegetarian options at the restaurant (e.g. veg panini) are not the best. But, since all of Tamarindo's restaurants are within minutes of walking distance, it is a very, very small criticism.

Room Tip: Try to get an ocean-facing room if you can. The second-best choice is a room in their brand-new buil...

This is a 4 star hotel with a 2 star price. Spent 4 days at the Diria and enjoyed every minutes of it. The staff from the management to the cleaning staff to the waiters, bartenders, kitchen staff were helpful, kind and wonderful We had a room across the street from the beach but we had a magnificent pool right outside our door. The pool has fountains, sprays, bridges and you enter like you enter the ocean with a slight incline. There is a beautiful pool bar (Maria the bartender is a love and makes a killer margarita) and the food is good- breakfasts are wonderful.
The rooms are very comfortable- there were 2 of us and it was ample. Beds are comfortable and the AC works great (even a ceiling fan too).

Room Tip: careful for rooms close to the street- could be a bit noisy

2 families of 4 booked into the Tropicana rooms on New Years Eve travelling on a weeks package with Air Canada Vacations. I cannot recommend this room category for more than 2 people. The rooms are tiny, the bathroom is probably the smallest I have seen in any hotel. The safe was not working beacuse a company had not yet come to programme them. The balcony, although a decnet size, had no furniture and there are no chairs in the room. Because the room was so small we booked a condominum in the hotel complex (managed by an outside company) but decided to keep the hotel rooms so we could make use of the breakfast that was included with the package we had booked.
After a couple of days I asked for something at the front desk of the hotel and my room number was requested. When I told her the number, I was not in the hotel system anywhere and neither were our friends. Our hotel rooms had been resold as the hotel was at capacity and a maid had said the rooms were empty. We had not checked out of the hotel or had any communication with the front desk. We had paid for 2 rooms for 7 nights. The hotel manager admitted they had sold our rooms and when we said that we should be given any proceeds from the room we were told that we would get none. I find this outrageous that you can register at a hotel and pre-pay for 7 nights and then have the room sold with no compensation or notification. We could easily have just been on a tour for couple of days and it is no business of the hotel as to whether we sleep in a room if we have paid for it. We had in fact gone back to the rooms to check for phone messages etc.
If management had simply offered us an apology and perhaps some small compensation I would have been satisfied but instead they made our party upset and shrugged it off as not a problem and we would have to seek compensation in Canada..
The condos are of a high quality and in a great location by the lagoon pool and I would recommend booking one of these instead of with a dishonest hotel. The condos allow full use of all the hotel facilities.
The hotel itself is nice, definitely not 5 star but it doesn't claim to be either. For the size hotel it really should have some kind of fitness facility. Service at breakfast was good if you go before 8.30 but we noticed if you go after 9am that you cannot find silverware or a waiter. The food is all cleared away at exactly 10am, The beachfront restaurant is a beautiful location but not a place for a quick meal. Service was extremely slow. I found the lunchtime food to be of good quality.

Room Tip: Book a condo. Avoid the Tropicana rooms if more than 2 people.
