We just returned from our first trip to Costa Rica. We spent three nights at Diria after spending the first part of our vacation in the Central part of Costa Rica.

Diria was nice because it is on the beach with great views of the ocean. The restaurant and bar areas have great atmosphere and good drinks, but the food was just okay. Breakfast was not very good and they quite possibly have the worst coffee I've ever had--strange since Costa Rica is known for their coffee. Still a nice place to hang out and enjoy the beach.

We had a Deluxe Sunset Room on the 3rd floor. Although the views were fantastic, the room was small and uncomfortable with a lot of noise from the street beginning very early in the morning. We had two small towels for three adults, and the bathroom smelled like sewage. Still worth it for the incredible views.

Since the road is not paved, there is dust everywhere, and I have to say, the staff did a good job of keeping things as clean as possible. It was not pleasant to walk down the street because of the dirt, exhaust fumes and construction.

There are a lot of pretty good restaurants along the beach next to Diria. This is a good thing since you can walk on the beach to get there, instead of dodging traffic and trenches on the street. We ate at Nugui's and Walter's at the end of the street, and Coconut's, which is a higher end restaurant with great food.

Did we have fun at Diria? Yes! Would we return for a 2nd stay? Probably not. There are too many other areas in Cost Rica to visit.

We just stayed at the Tamarindo Diria for the weekend as we made our way through Costa Rica. We did not make reservations. We just called ahead of time and they had a room available. The hotel itself is nice and the location is very good right in Tamarindo Beach. When we arrived, the security guard outside the hotel was very nice and directed us to park. The people working at the front desk were aloof and not welcoming at all. They were not rude but they were cold. All the other staff aside the front desk were nice and helpful

The room itself was clean and had a decent view of the ocean. However, the room was full of mosquitoes. The walls were covered with flattened mosquitoes which I guess had been killed by previuos guests. We killed a couple ourselves.

The other issue was that the shower stall had a window which looked out right into the hallway. The window was high but from the hallway you could see the shower head and someone could put a stool and peek right into the shower. This was all the rooms in that section. I don't know who design it this way.

You got breakfast included with the rate so we ate there two days. Food was bland and not very good. However, they had a big variety of things such as fruit and cereals. Overall, for the money $212 a night plus 13% tax, if you like the beach this is an ok place to stay.

I have been traveling to Tamarindo for four years and always wanted to stay at Tamarindo Diria. This was the year we were going to stay in style, or at least I thought. I checked in after a long day driving cross country and was greeted by a rude and dismissive reception.

After the disappointing reception we wanted to wash after the long dusty journey and found the rooms had no running water. So we thought maybe we could just cool off with the air conditoning. Not so, the air conditioning was broken. At least the water was back on by the next morining, however, the A/C took two days to fix. We could have moved but we had garden sunset view rooms and we would have been moved to less desirable rooms.

The grounds and location are beautiful and Diria is the only first class hotel on the beach at Tamarindo. Unfortunatly they know you do not have any other choice for resort style accomidations and feel they do not have to take care of their guests.

I certainly will never return to Tamarindo Diria.

Hotel Diria is probably the nicest hotel in Tamarindo. It was our first time ever to Costa Rica, and we got really lucky with our hotel selection. It is right on the beach, but be careful when booking, there is also a part of the hotel that is across the street (not on the beach)and I can see how it can be confusing. The breakfast buffet was a perfect start to each day, I loved the pineapple...Great surf instructor at the Witch's Rock surf camp-ask for Edgar! Don't bring too nice of clothes, tshirts, tank tops, shorts will do. this place is full of adventure-4 wheeling, canpoy tours, surfing, scooters, just a great trip-just be ready to rough it a bit. Some great restaurants in town, you just have to want to venture out. Try Witch's Rock sushi and they have happy hour every day 5-9, its great! Overall, we had the best time and would go back and definitley stay at Diria!!!

We just got back from a 4 day stay at the Tamarindo Diria. We had a great time! The resort is the only one in the town that is on the beach and that is a pretty big deal. I understand there are other nice resorts on the beach but they are not walking distance to the town and that was really nice to have both. The food in Costa Rica was excellent. Very fresh and affordable. The hotel had a complimentary breakfast that was very good also, lots of fresh fruits and a wid variety of things to chose from. We took surfing lessons from Iguana surf right down from the hotel which was fun and one day we took the Marlin del Ray sailboat out for snorkling and kayaking. That trip was from 1:30 to sunset and included an open bar and lunch for $75. It was a great deal! All the restaurants we went to were fantastic and dancing at La Barra was fun also. One thing that was really fun was driving to a beach about 25 minutes away to a little lunch place called "Lola's". It was a great afternoon, great food, drinks, and the ability to meet the 400 pound pig (Lola) after who the place was named - a very fun day! Costa Rica was a perfect vacation. Do not miss going to see something else while you are there like the rainforest or a volcano. FUN trip!

This seemed like the only decent place to stay in Tamarindo.
The ocean-view rooms have a great view and are worth the extra $. However for the rates they charge we expected better service, a hot (or at least warm) shower, and a reliable wake up call. We were charged for mini-bar items that we did not take. We called them out on it and got them removed from the bill, good thing we were careful looking over the bill.

Note: bring a battery operated alarm clock! the power goes out frequently (it is a third world country after all) and on top of that if you request a wake up call and the power goes out, you don't get your call. We had to call my parents in Boston and ask them to call our room at 5:30am so that we made sure we woke up to catch our flight. This seemed ridiculous considering we paid over $200/night.

PROS=GREAT VIEW(OCEAN FRONT 3RD FLOOR),Clean rooms, fan&air both worked, nice resturant, shopping, iguanas, lots of shells on the beach, breakfast included, helpful staff. CONS=NEVER ENOUGH WASHCLOTHS(bring some from home),road construction right in front of the hotel(lots of noise and dust),not enough drawer space-closet space for 2 people, lousy pillows, the safe broke and we had to fix it ourselfs.
