The Diria is a nice place to stay. The groups and pool areas are nicer than most in Tamarindo. The hotel is conveniently located in the middle of town. We walked the whole thing with no problem.

The staff isn't as helpful as some smaller family owned places but we didn't have much problem. The breakfast is fantastic and our rooms were clean and well maintained.

We rented scooters while we were there and this was great. I highly recommend doing this. We rode 6 hours up and down the coast! Great views and really fun. MUST catch the sunset - you won't believe it!

The nightlife is good. We were a group of 25 year olds and we had a blast. The beers are cheap and music is always playing somewhere. Overall, great time ... lots of sun!

A four stars hotels, but a very good hotel.

1. Very clean.
2. The stuff is so, so, so friendly. I've spent 2 weeks like a dream.
3. Good food.
4. One of the best breakfast ever...!!! 15-20 kinds of meals.
5. Well guarded, very safe.
6. Super!!!

Once you get over the fact that you are in a third world country that has very little infrastructure, you can enjoy your stay.
Rated as a four star resort, keep in mind that four stars in Costa Rica is most likely two or three stars stateside for this type resort. Pretty well maintained hotel(staff is always mopping floors), good security procedures, rooms a bit small, more on the european style, many hot water issues, excellent restaurant, with many activities at your fingertips.
Hot water comes and goes....frequently. Never can tell what you are going to get when you turn the handle. See the infrastructure statement.

We had some major rain during our stay and the building leaks in certain areas, some of it in my room, but nothing that presented a major problem. The only hotel that has rooms on the beach, other than La Palapa which only has six rooms available.
The older section is the Ocean rooms. The other "land view" rooms are across the street. Newer, but still, you must cross the street to get to the main hotel.
When booking tours through the tour desk, keep in mind that the hotel only deals with Cat Tours. You will see other photos and descriptions of tours in a booklet of which you will select one, but keep in mind you may not be getting the tour illustrated. They show many companies, but only deal with Cat Tours. We aware!

All in all, it was a good, enjoyable stay. Would recommend with the caveats above.

My wife and I stayed at the Diria during the first week of Sept. 2007. We highly recommend asking for an ocean front room, otherwise you will need to cross a small street to get to the beach. The staff was pleasant and the food was decent, although there are better choices in and around town. The room was large with a balcony and the staff seemed to be constantly cleaning it (a good thing). The water pressure was terrible but the A/C worked very well. One very interesting caveat about all of Tamarindo. In the rainy season, they shut the electricity OFF on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. every week. If you must have electricity, this is not the place for you. This was the nicest hotel and had the best location in Tamarindo.

We stayed at the Tamarindo Diria at the end of July 2007 for one week and we really enjoyed our time here. Though not a high-end five-star hotel, it was very nice and accomdating. The staff here was very friendly and they all spoke English quite well. The food at the restaurant was good as well and overall the property was clean and very pretty.

We had a garden view room, so it was in the back half of the hotel by the big pool and away from the beach. The room itself was nice - pretty simple, but clean and sufficient. It had a safe, pretty comfy bed and a clean bathroom.

The pool was nice and almost always empty and quiet. They have a swim-up bar, and again, the staff here is very friendly. The only downer was construction while we were staying there, but you sort of got used to it and could ignore it.

We also arrange two day tours through the hotel - a trip to the Arenal Volcano and white water rafting and both trips were a lot of fun and we didn't have any problems.

Stayed: July 2007
