“Gorgeous Sunsets”
Reviewed December 29, 2012

My grandkids were able to surf on this beach and it was very safe and beautiful. Can walk out for blocks it seems. We all loved the sunsets and the colors in the water.

* Great place to learn how to surf - not so great for more advanced surfers but a good central location to all great surf spots in the area
*The stores are great for finding Costa Rican treasures
*Great central location to adventure tours and surfing spots
*Great selection of hotels for all types of visitors

“Come and enjoy- something for everyone”
Reviewed December 24, 2012

A beautiful, wide expanse of soft sand, few rocks, and a nice mix of North Americans, Europeans, Ticos and other Latinos enjoying the surf, sun, and sand. It can get busy, especially in high season, but it is never as busy as European beaches. Good sand bottom surf break at the north end near the estuary, which can get crowded at times. Swimmers need to be careful of currents near the rocks in front of Hotel Diria and near the estuary, but the further south you go the surf and currents get tamer.

“Great Beach Overall for R&R”
Reviewed December 21, 2012

This is a great beach for walking, swimming, watching surfers learn to surf, watching dogs do what dogs do when at the ocean, and picking up shells. We visited Tamarindo the first week in December and for exercise we walked the beach twice each morning. In the afternoons we enjoyed the warm water and easy waves during low tide. The only downside from a visitor’s perspective is the number of people trying to sell their wares or cigars or whatever. I understand people do this to make a living , but it is non-stop. The same people will ask you over and over again if you walk up and down the beach while they are walking up and down the beach. No Gracias becomes a phrase you will need to say over and over again.

“Beach is great for beachcombing”
Reviewed December 18, 2012

I hate lying on the beach. I can't do it. The beach at Tamarindo is fine if that's what you want to do. It's also great for surfers, as the waves are regular and the long shallow beach is great for learners. It is also excellent for beachcombing, especially at low tide. The beach varies in width tremendously between high and low tide. It is not a great beach for snorkeling, as the fine sand stays suspended and the water is often murky. Not to worry. Various water sport opportunities are available from vendors on the beach. If swimming, beware of the outcroppings of lava rock that are precarious when hidden at high tide. Check out the beach at low tide so you know wher the dangerous spots are.All in all , a very nice beach.
