This is a nice, little hotel that offers great value, good location and a super friendly and accommodating host.

Room - the room we stayed in met our needs very well. Everything worked perfectly and it was very clean.

Service - Our host, Cecille, was friendly and super helpful. She gave us very good information on where to go, eat and have coffee, and she organised a surf lesson and surf hire, as well as transport to the airport.

Ambience - this is a pretty laid back and relaxed hotel. Because of the way it is set up, you can easily meet other travellers and socialise. By the same token, no one will make you feel bad if you just want to keep to yourself.

Location - the hotel is not absolute waterfront, but is conveniently located around shops, restaurants and cafes. The beach is a two minute walk.

Our stay in Hotel Mayhana was great!!!. It’s a very nice place! The room was very comfortable, clean, the sheets were good, and bathroom was also nice. The place was a shared kitchen that’s good. The owner Cecile was very friendly, and all the other guests was also cool. It was a nice new year’s eve there!!!

A buddy of mine and I recently travelled different parts of Costa Rica. Before arriving Tamarindo we booked a room at Mahayana, but only for 2 nights since we didn't know what to expect of the place. The answer came right away - just by walking through the hotel gate made me realize that this place was a little paradise, and hence we asked Cecile if we could extend our stay to a full week. "Of course you can", she said, "but there is only one problem. I'm fully booked for the night after tomorrow. But no worries! If you like you can have the spare bedroom in my house, next door of the hotel."

She really is an amazing woman! Always so helpful, caring and welcoming towards her visitors (or friends - as she treats them as such). Thanks a lot Cecile!

Since Mahayana is such a small and cozy hotel, and the fact that it has an outdoor kitchen and relaxing area, makes it easy to get to know other visitors. Most of them instantly seemed to adopt the hotel atmosphere, and by the end we were like one big happy family.

If you want to have a relaxed time, meeting nice folks, prefer the sounds of birds singing instead of being kept awake by the city noises, and still being in close proximity to everything that Tamarindo has to offer regarding both day and night life - then Mahayana would be my recommendation.

I had a wonderful stay!

Erlend :)

I stayed on this hotel for a short vacation with friends on the tamarindo-avellanas area.
This hotel is very well located. Very close to the tamarindo beach area, so you could have a nice walk to the beach, restaurants, supermarkets, but apart enough from the noise of tamarindo main streets so the rooms are very quiet if you feel you need to get some good rest.
Also, Cecile the hotel’s owner is a very nice hostess and makes sure that you get all you need to have a perfect stay.
There is a small shared kitchen with all you need if you want to cook your own meals.

Cecile was an amazing hostess. My girlfriend and I live in Costa Rica and booked the hotel for Thanksgiving weekend. Cecile not only made it incredibly easy to book the room, but even booked our horseback riding and turtle watching tour for us. She got us amazing discounts and went above and beyond, what I could have ever imagined, in helping me to orchestrate my proposal on a private sunset sail. The location of the hotel is excellent. There are two great restaurants less than 50 yds from the hotel and its easy 5 min walk to the beach. Plus, it's far enough from the crowds and busy streets to be a peaceful retreat in an otherwise lively location. I highly reccommend this hotel to anyone who plans to stay in Tamarindo.

Me and my girl stay there for tree night and it was amazing!!

Untill the start you feel in the jungle and in the nature (hey.. there's palm tree, tropical flowers and iguana in the middle of the hostel!) but with the confort of nice and clean room!!

The service is awesome and personalise with Cecile whoa take care of each client personnaly because it is a small hostel ( 6 room)

Is far enought of the noise of the downtown and close enought of the beach and nigth (5min walk)

Its' cheap (24$\night), there's kitchen, spa in front off your room, A\C, nice big shower....

We did like it and wanted to stay longer...

My boyfriend and I stayed for 3 nights at Mahayana Hotel last week, and we absolutely loved this place! It was definetely the most comfortable place we've stayed in during our trip in Costa Rica for the same price range. The room was cozy, with AC and hot shower (really nice, big shower!) and the bed was just as comfortable. This place is a little out of town, only a 5 minute walk from the beach, so it's much quieter than most of the places seemed to be in Tamarindo. I would recommand this hotel to anyone, not only for the excellent ammenities, but also for the awesone owner, Cécile. She made us feel welcomed like I assume she would do with friends. She really cares and it shows. Merci pour tout Cécile! :)
