I found the Hotel very cozy and the location great. It was close to everything but also just away enough to be safe and quite. The owner Cecile will assist you in any way that is needed and I made so many friends as we all used and shared the common kitchen.

My friend and I stayed here in the beginning of July and we only have good things to say about the place. The owner, a french woman, is very welcoming and made us feel at home. The place is clean and is located walking distance to a great pizza place and not far from shops and the beach. The kitchen is open to use freely which benefits those on a shoestring budget.

Room Tip: If traveling with as a couple, opt for the room with a single queen sized bed...otherwise you may ge...

Cécile, the owner, was absolutely amazing. She greeted us andhelped us carry our bags immediately upon arrival. She was always accessible and ready to help with a smile on her face. She showed us the way to the beach and the nearest grocery store, and walked with us! The hotel is located about 5 minutes or less from the center of town and the beach, which was perfect for a great nights sleep and and some privacy! There is a community kitchen, which is perfect for people on a budget, as well as a mini-fridge and AC in the rooms. The rooms are spacious, immaculate and cleaned daily. The water is hot and the beds are very comfortable! We were only going to stay 1 night, and ended up staying for 3. We wanted to stay longer! We love Cécile and highly recommend this hotel!!!

After backpacking for a few weeks, my Mom and I were so happy to arrive at Hotel Mahayana! We really enjoyed our stay - the location is great (in a quieter area of Tamarindo, but not far from the beach and main street), Cecile was a lovely host, and we had a clean, comfortable room with a bar fridge, A/C, and a spacious private bathroom - with hot water! Each room came with a small table and two chairs to use (located just outside the room door), there were lots of pool chairs for lounging in, the odd hammock was hanging up, and there was an open concept kitchen that guests could use. It was a bit more than we had been paying elsewhere, but a great find!!

What more could you ask for? We had great AC and hot showers (legit hot showers, not those scary suicide showers). Our room was very clean and the beds were very comfortable. The location is off the main road which was nice, but it is only a 5 min walk to town and the beach. The owner was great and did our laundry for a small fee. A little pricer than what we had been paying, but like I said, "Hot showers and AC."

My partner and I arrived in Tamarindo thinking that we would stay a few nights....a few weeks later we could barely bring ourselves to leave Mahayana.

The rooms were perfect. Clean, comfortable, new and fresh. the AC was a real luxury. The bathrooms were spacious and the showers great. We spent many an afternoon sitting in the jacuzzi, relaxing, observing the wildlife and really just enjoying every moment of it. The kitchen was also useful and well equipped- we used it every day. Everything was maintained and kept spotless.

The location was ideal. It's quiet, peaceful and a restful nights' sleep is assured, but you're only a few minutes walk from the main street, shops and the beach.

The value for money was unbeatable, especially in Tamarindo, which can be quite pricey. Honestly though, even if our budget had been bigger, we still would have stayed at Mahayana. That's how much we loved it!

Cecile was the most wonderful host- helpful, kind, friendly and full of useful information. She treated us as though we were friends, and always had a pot of coffee ready for everyone in the morning :)

I can't stop singing the praises of this hotel, which became a home away from home for us. We already miss it.

loved this place. my friend and i were looking for a place outside of the busy area and this was the perfect location for that. cecile greeted us by name and was extremely helpful with everything we needed for travel and tips for the location. it was simple but just what we needed. :) the rooms had everything you need, and the location was quiet where you could hear the birds and the crickets. good sense of community as well with the communal kitchen that everyone gathers around. for the money, a great place to spend a few days!
