Soda El Buen Comer was recommended to us, so we made the 10 minute walk from our hostel. We were not disappointed - the lady that helped us was very friendly, and the food was great. Each Casado (typical meal with meat/fish, egg, rice, beans, salad) was about $5.

I can't believe we were in Tamarindo for almost 3 months before we found this place! The family that runs this restaurant is so nice, even though they didn't speak much English and our Spanish was very limited! The Casada, with your choice of meat, was really good and really large! Beans and rice, salad, french fries, cheese, a fried egg and a plantain with whatever meat you choose is a lot of food- but take it home for lunch the next day! Experience real Costa Rican food here at the best price in town. ( Make sure you go to El Buen Comer and not the restaurant next door that also served Tico food, but not half as good!)

It is very difficult to find fair priced food in Tamarindo. The prices are fixed and overpriced. The quality is not all bad. Every place in town has set their prices according to the next guy and the bottom is that it is all overpriced. Also beware of the deceptively hidden extra 13% tax and 10% service. Look for the small print.

That brings us to this great place. Located across the street from Witches Rock is a very small soda. Maybe 5 tables. Run by a friendly Tico family.

Five dollar casado with more food than you can eat. Typical casado with multiple different choices of meat. Rice, beans, cold pasta/vegetable salad, fried egg, plantains. Giant plate of food-- 5 dollars. The place next door started at 7 dollars for a casado plus the added 23%.

The place was full of ticos. They know where to go.

Even spotted a gringa employee from Witches Rock eating there. Must say something about the food at the soda...or not say much about the overpriced food at Witches Rock/Eat at Blows.

This small restaurant (aka Soda) was recommended to us by a local person as we were looking for some soup to help soothe my cold. We enjoyed the food and the excellent service so much that we returned almost every night for dinner during our stay in Tamarindo. In our opinion this restaurant offers a delicous Costa Rican meal for a very reasonable price. It is located across the street from the Witch's Rock Surf camp.

We really enjoyed the rice dishes and garlic shrimp (see pictures). They also offer a very tasty dessert (forgot the name) that consists of a fried tortilla with sugar cane syrup. Their fish ceviche is also very nice. Be sure to ask for Rodrigo.

Pura Vida!
