While on holiday in Tamarindo we went on three Go Adventure Tours. The first was a monkey boat tour with Shaggy (you'll LOVE Shaggy - he serves the most delicious pineapple ever!). The second was a sailing tour with Antares Sailing Adventures - one of the BEST experiences of my life! The last was a combo tour that included ziplining, rock climbing, horseback riding, white water rafting, a mud wrap and hot springs. Talk about a tour with a lot of activity! It was well, well worth the $150 we spent to be on tour from 7am to 5:30pm. We had initially booked a day and I ended up sick with an upset stomach. We called the manager, Ciro Briceno, on his cell phone late in the evening the day before the tour to ask if we could postpone. We thought it was a long-shot. Guess what he said....'Absolutely, your health is #1' We were both relieved and blown away by the response. Thank you to all the guides at Go Adventures, you made the holiday extra amazing!

I contacted Go Adventures before leaving home and booked my tours by email. They were very friendly, helpful, accommodating and professional. We loved the personal attention you get by booking a private tour. We didn't have to share our guide or van with anyone. The prices were also cheaper than the group tours offered by the hotel.

The first tour was to Tamarindo for surfing lessons and shopping. Ciro picked us up at our hotel (Allegro Papagayo) and drove us to Tamarindo. He drove safely and gave us information about the area and sugar cane farming on the way. He answered my numerous questions with enthusiasm. He arranged a surfing lesson for my husband and 13 yr old son. My 16 yr old daughter and I went shopping. Afterward, we went for lunch with Ciro and Miguel (surf instructor). What awesome guys! They really made it a fun day for us. Ciro even took us to a grocery store on the way back to purchase coffee. He went out of his way to make it a memorable trip for us.

The second tour was the Combo Tour at Canyon Park - Rincon de la Vieja Volcano. This was a fantastic, fun-filled adventurous day! It was our favorite day of the entire vacation. We rode horses to the river then got on rafts and floated down the rapids. After we changed into dry clothes, we went ziplining, rappelling, and rock climbing. We had an excellent buffet lunch before heading to the spa where we covered our bodies with volcanic mud and baked in the sun. When the mud dried, we jumped into the cool river to clean off before soaking in the hot springs. What a magical day! Ciro was there to help us navigate from one adventure to the next and to cheer us on. On the way back to the hotel we asked Ciro to take us to buy sunglasses (as my husband lost his in the river). No problem! Another perk of private tours.

We would definitely recommend this tour company.

Note: Our hotel has dedicated tour operators and does not allow outside tour operators to pick up customers in the lobby, an oversight on both our parts, security would not let our driver in to pick us up. After many calls and explanations to the front desk, they finally agreed to let him walk up and find us in the lobby. The next time we met him at the hotel gate and had no trouble.

Another note: Police in Costa Rica have been cracking down on unlicensed tour operators. They have random check stops on the highways and stop tour company vehicles to check that they have all their paperwork up to date and that they have a tour operator license. If the driver is not compliant the police will retain them and it is the tourist's responsibility to get back to their hotel on their own. If you are booking online or off the beach, make sure you book with a reputable company and that they have their paperwork visible on the right side of their windshield (required by law). We were stopped and checked, and had no issues.

As a group of 9 with ages ranging from 11-49 we really enjoyed the experience however as a few reviewers before me have mentioned the adventures are done by a hurried yet efficient staff at the national park and have NOTHING to do with Go Adventues. The white water rafting was by far the best activity of the day. It was really fabulous and all 9 of us agreed our favorite, but NOT the 1.25 hours advertised, more like 45 minutes. We would all do the tour again (minus the horseback ride of 20-30 minutes on skinny, seemingly exhausted horses). All the guides on each of the activities were knowledgeable and we felt totally safe. I must also mention that GoAdventures was superb with their communication and set us up nicely (we drove our own van to the location).

My husband and I stayed in Tamarindo for 10 nights and Go Adventures completed our long stay since it provided great activities and entertainment as well as information about the area. The workers at the kiosk were extremely helpful and made us feel very welcomes. We went on the combo tour which was a great and fulfilling way to spend the day Thanks Go Adventures!
